Light enough to bring along anytime, tough enough to stand up to nasty weather.

Rain, wind, snow, or hail -- let it dump. The Gore Bike Wear ALP-X 2.0 GT AS Jacket is ready for whatever Mother Nature can dish out. With a patented fabric construction and an anatomic fit design, the ALP-X 2.0 is the wind and waterproof jacket that'll keep you warm and dry throughout your next trail adventure.

Gore Bike Wear's ALP-X 2.0 GT AS jacket is made from Gore's patented Gore-Tex Active fabric. This material adheres to Gore's rigorous standards of lightweight, windproof, waterproof, and breathable construction. We understand that this is a tall order, but Gore alone has proven itself capable of commanding such absolutes. Enough so, that we can't really tell you exactly how Gore-Tex works, because it's easily the closest guarded secret in the fabric business. What we do know is that you'll never be dryer, regardless of how bad the weather is.The multi-layer fabric design allows high breathability and well regulated moisture transfer away from the skin to the outer-layer of the jacket. Not only is the jacket designed to compete with the weather, but it provides a precise anatomic fit as well. The ALP-X jacket features stretch inserts on the back and arms, and an adjustable hem and wrist cuffs to allow the jacket to follow you in and out of the saddle. Gore also incorporated an adjustable zip-away hood and a fold-away shirt tail for protection from wheel spray.

And although the ALP-X 2.0 is made for mountainous touring, you're going to have to ride home at some point. That's why Gore's included reflective piping on the sleeves and back, and a reflective logo on the front, back, and collar of the jacket. For storage, the jacket uses a front Napoleon pocket and a zippered under-flap.

The Gore Bike Wear ALP-X 2.0 GT AS Jacket is available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large and in the colors Black, Castle Grey/black, Kiwi/black, Navy Blue/black, Red/black, and Vibrant Orange/black.

ALP-X 2.0 GORE-TEX? AS Jacket by GBW

MTB tour specific: Very lightweight, waterproof and breathable mountain bike jacket. It performs well in various weather conditions and riding levels thanks to its ventilation features.

Here, the mesh that helps keep air moving (relatively speaking), providing a space between the body and shell to help keep excess moisture away from the body.

The "shirt tail" snapped up, out of sight.

Extendable "shirt tail" that snaps up, out of view, when not needed, and is the perfect length when it gets 'messy' outside!

Here's the view of it un-snapped.

Great jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Great rainjacket, not only for biking. The fit is athletic. Have XL. Fits my skinny body, I am 6,4, 180 lbs. Not to much extra fabric around the waist. Lightweight.

re: not just for biking...your gonna' love this...I am a avid gardener, too, and found a fantastic sale on spring bulbs to planted in fall; anyway, I ended up buying something like 700 which have to been planted like NOW! It was very windy and freezing cold with flurries...but the wind was the worst part. Didn't want to ruin my good down jackets...so I ended up wearing this jacket, with the 'shirt tail' unsnapped for added protection as I had to crawl around on the ground for hours in the wind/snow/light drizzle...with layering underneath I was perfectly protected and dry without added bulk of a down jacket! And that drop-down shirt-tail really made a differenc, too!
Go Gore ALP-X 2.0...multi-tasking to the max!

Kept me dry in 2 solid days of downpour

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I needed rain gear for a 240mi Durango to Moab 7 day ride and purchased this after reading tons of reviews on many different jackets. I knew I wanted a gore-tex (or similar) jacket to ensure waterproofness, and I was hoping to find a bike specific design.
This jacket performed BETTER than expected. It was super small and light-weight when rolled up in my backpack which made me very happy.
The last 2 days of our ride it was a complete downpour in 48 degree temps...the same rainstorm that later flooded Colorado after hitting us in the La Sal's outside Moab.
I was dreading riding in rain gear with fear of getting soaked and/or overheated inside the confined shell. To my surprise the gore-tex worked as advertised. Even though I was sweating and riding fairly hard I never felt wet on the inside, so it must have been breathing. The rain never penetrated the jacket and I was able to maintain a good riding temperature despite the conditions.
I'm really impressed with the latest generation of Gore-tex Active and I plan on buying the matching pants now!
Oh, and I agree with the difficult zipper comments, it's hard to get it started, but hey it was waterproof so I'll put up with a difficult zipper!

Just a note about the rain pants (to any who may not be aware)...they are very baggy from the knee down and will require a pants-leg band to keep the bottom of the pant leg out of the chain. I've found one by 'Deuter' that is excellent: it's a bit wider than most (but doesn't interfere or annoy), so it can hold in the material better. It also has a wider reflective 3M strip than most others. Average retail is about $11.00, special-ordered from your favorite bike shop.

@Debbie C above re: "...very baggy from the knee down and will require a pant-leg band..." Yes, they are baggy, but they have two (2) Velcro places sewn-in to cinch the Velcro ankle strap to; one in close proximity to the strap to simply snug them around a hiking boot or shoe, and the other much farther away on the side, almost around to the front, to really snug them around your ankle specifically for riding a bike! If you don't know its there, you might miss it, so look for it; you will be glad you found it, and used it! Great pants over my thermal knickers for really wet, muddy rides... ah, such bliss!

and...Now U Don't...

and...Now U Don't...

Actually rolls up tighter than this and fits even lower in the outsides pouch pocket, leaving still plenty of room for whatever else you may need to take along: extra jersey, shorts/ALP-X 2.0 rain pants, binoculars, camera, extra food, whatever! Love this rain-proof jacket, and the removable hood option!

"IFY" weather? Don't get caught without it; easily packs up and fits in the Osprey 14 pack. Too large for a back jersey pocket, but does fit in a hydration pack.

Totally packable & best wind/rain jacket

Here it is rolled up with room to spare in a Raptor 14 pack. Very light weight; I don't leave home without it (except when it's actually nice around here, I pack the Xenon jacket, a even lighter, windbreaker; but not waterproof).

Poor zipper

The jacket is built with good workmanship and quality material. But the zipper casts a big shadow on this jacket's longevity. I spent a good a minute or two in zipping up. I wonder if the zipper can last. I end up returning it.

Responded on

Yes, I have this jacket ("2013") and the weatherproof, zipper can be a little bit of a @!# to work, especially with full-finger gloves on only because of the small size; (same zipper type on my *Lezyne seat bag); but N.B.D., if it helps keep the rain out, in my opinion anyway.

what is the length of this jacket in size...

what is the length of this jacket in size med and large? it does not specify in the sizing chart.

I checked the Gore web site, and they too only give the arm length and the chest measurements. So, I would recommend you go directly to Goreapparel.com and ask a rep.
I can say that my ALP-X 2.0 (women's of course) jacket is plenty long enough, especially when you unsnap the back 'apron' to cover up during rainy rides. Arms are plenty long, too.
"Fit" listed on the Gore site is: SLIM (but not tight).
