Always backup, very resistant.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I use this a lot for mounting it on the windshield. If used inside your car you can be certain it wont fail. If it does, it just lands by your lap. If you use it outside, attach a fishing nylon to it just in case it falls. You don't want to loose your 300 dollar camera. This being said, it has never failed on me. It feels very resistant and attaches really strong.

Solid, add a lanyard

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The suction on this thing is impressive, but I wish they'd added some sort of retractable lanyard. Easy enough to make yourself, but it would have been smart.

This mount is TOUGH!

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was very pleasantly surprised when I got this. It is heavy duty all the way, would not feel hesitant to mount it in tricky places and trust my gopro with it.

Low Light Time Laps Test on myDrive Home

I got my new HERO 3 Black Edition today and HAD to try it out on the way home to test it's legendary low light advancements I've been hearing about, and I've got to say they were better than I expected! The light outside was darker than it looks in this time laps. I shot this on the Time Laps photo mode taking 1 12mp photo every 5 seconds and then sped each photo up to 0.1 second in iMovie. I recommend everyone get this camera as it is a HUGE improvement on the HERO2!

Does anyone know how well this works in...

Does anyone know how well this works in the snow? I want to use attach my gopro to my board to get a different view point.

Responded on

it probably won't hold very well on your snowboard since your board is going to be flexing and vibrating. Go ahead and try it just make sure you have it teathered to your binding or something so when it does fall off you don't loose it. ALWAYS TEATHER!

Be Aware

I purchased the Go Pro Motor sports package that included this suction cup. The first day I used the suction cup, I drove 40 miles on the freeway with it staying on just fine. On the way back, it held fine until we reached the top speed of the trip. My Go Pro was ripped of my car at 75 miles per hour and thrown onto I80. I eventually found my camera and the pieces while hiking up and down Parleys. Sweet idea and great for slow, good weather condition days. Bottom line: Just remember you are strapping a $300 investment to something.

Used on a Kiteboard and a Wall!

This suction cup mount is amazingly strong! I use it on my kiteboard (with a leash just in case) and it hasn't come off yet! I've also got it to stick in a wall for about 2 minutes! It is worth getting just make sure you have it tethered to something just in case it fall off.

NOT stainless steel

While the mount is good and sucks very well (much better than other suction caps) the metal hardware is NOT stainless steel.
Using it in salt water will corrode the bolts and after a while will become rusty.
Since GoPro cameras are often used in lousy weather or marine environments, the bolts shold be changed to stainless steel

Thanks for the heads up on the lack of SS hardware. For sea kayaking in saltwater, this is an absolute MUST - and that's what I was purchasing this for. What's up with that, GoPro?

Works great on windows, other flat surfaces

Maybe you are documenting the road trip to a distant biking destination, or maybe you are driving your mud buggy around the swampy swamps. Either way, this suction cup mount is the most firm, secure, and versatile mount for windows and other flat, smooth surfaces. You can aim the camera in basically all directions with this mount, and everything is easily adjustable. One plus is that the suction cup doesn't leave marks on any surfaces, unlike other similar products. And do remember to clean the surface you are suctioning this to beforehand. It will last a lot longer if you do.

Impressive

I stuck it on my motorcycle last week. It ended up being a very bumpy ride. A lot of potholes, old frost heaves, cracks in the road. No issues at all. I wasn't completely confident with it and created a leash for the mount, but never had to use it. Mind you, the surface was on one of my hardcase saddle bags. The surface of the bag isn't completely smooth either. It is a bit rough.

Update: I had this on my motorcycle for over 2500 miles from Boston up to Nova Scotia and around Nova Scotia. It never fell off.

It Sucks... In A Good Way!

I bought this to use on my Kiteboard and I was amazed at how well it stays on the board! The thing suctions onto the flat smooth surface of the board and then you flip the switch up and it locks it on there! I had a leash on it just in case and I will continue to put the leash on it. This will definitely stay on your board, car, window, etc...

Scouting the Wasatch backcountry via air at 220mph!

My friend was able to stick it on the side of the jump plane a few weeks ago. I wish there was footage, but he forgot to hit the record button.
