Take deep breaths.

When you're getting ready for a full day on the trails, hands are often the last thing to think about. But even though they aren't providing the power for your ride, they're how you control shifting, braking, and steering — not to mention, they're the first part of your body to take a hit when you clip a low-hanging tree branch. Giro's Xen Gloves take hand protection to the next level, with plenty of DH-ready padding and XC-caliber breathability.

The gloves' upper is covered by Giro's sonic-welded armor, which is accented by breathable mesh to keep your hands protected and cool. At the heel of your palm, Poron XRD padding is soft until impact, at which point it stiffens to keep your palms from getting shredded when you go over the bars. Flex zones at the knuckles and silicone print at the fingertips keep your digits dexterous and your braking reliable, respectively, and the three-piece Super Fit Clarino palm is hooked up with 2mm Technogel padding to reduce vibrations without making it feel like you're gripping your bars while wearing mittens.

Awesome!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I bought these because I went over the bars with no protection and jammed my hand and wrist up pretty good. I think had I with gloves that may have saved me. Or at least helped. I like these because they looked like they had a large cushion on the outside of the hand where I messed up my hand. And when they arrived that's exactly how they were, other gloves didn't appear to have this but I believe this is where you want the cushion :). I wear these in 95 degree humid trail rides and they don't feel too hot. I don't expect they'll be very warm in the winter but they'll be better than nothing of course. My only slight complaint is there are a few strings kind of sticking out of the seems so maybe that's a QC issue, but they don't seem to be unraveling yet. And I've already crashed a few times on them. I think they are actually going to last a while! An unexpected surprise is how well they are designed. 1. The fit is great. Typically I wear xl gloves because L gloves tend to pull my the bottom of my hand at the bottom of the thumb funny, and eventually make it sore. But the size chart made it seem like I needed large not extra large so I chose large; they fit great: they are not too tight, they don't pull my thumb, and yet they aren't loose at the finger tips. I'd say the size chart is pretty accurate. 2. The cell phone touch works surprisingly well, I didn't expect it to work as previous "touch screen friendly" gloves I've had didn't really work very good. 3. Despite the heavy duty guards and build, they are built with the perfect soft suede parts for wiping sweat off your face. Old gloves I had always rub a seam across your face, not a big deal......but I'm always surprised when these never do. Not something I was looking for or cared about but I was impressed with whoever designed these. It seems like a lot of r&d went into making these. Verdict: I'd buy them again! Great gloves!
