Comfort, for the rest of us.

The Giro Privateer Shoes sheath your feet in a combination of performance and comfort not easily matched in shoes of a similar price point. Their uppers are constructed from a synthetic leather that is not only supple, it holds its shape for miles and miles of riding. It is also breathable so that your feet stay dry no matter how high the temperatures rise, and mesh inserts have been sewn into the uppers to speed up the evaporation process. The Privateer’s uppers are secured with a ratcheting buckle at the ankle and two hook and loop closures.

The DuPont Zytel composite sole isn’t quite as stiff as a carbon sole, but it also isn’t as pricey. But, when it comes down to it, having a slightly more forgiving sole means more comfort for long hours in the saddle. The deep lugs provide traction when you need it. The EVA molded footbeds provide medium arch support that works with the sole to enhance comfort for the long haul. The Giro Privateer shoes are compatible with 2-hole mountain style cleats.

  • Synthetic leather uppers
  • Lugged DuPont Zytel sole
  • Compatible with 2-hole cleats

I am diggin' the heck outta these shoes right now like there is no tomorrow! From their color, to their fit, even to the crazy traction they provide, the Privateer's are just killing it! I've got a pair of Codes too, which I've now gifted to my girl (we wear the same size, weird, I know) and I would opt to get the Privateer's again in a heartbeat! Their wallet friendliness alone, can't be beat!

To the peeps below saying they fit a bit tight, possibly go up half a size, or get some miles in them... like 50-75 or so, and you'll notice how they start to mold to your feet and get quite comfy all of a sudden.

I was a die-hard Shimano and Mavic man up until recently. I ain't going back!

Glowing Red - Pedal like yer on Fire!

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small

LOVE THESE SHOES - So responsive, with the price of some entry level shoes. They are very secure and comfortable.

Only complaint is while the length is perfect, I find they are a tight fit. I found the velcro straps could be a bit longer. The shoe will likely stretch and mould to my feet a bit.
Other than that, Super comfortable and great power transfer!

Great initial impression

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

Just bought these after being in my Shimano M088's for the last year. After my Shimano's soles falling apart on me, I decided to jump ship to Giro. I know they are new to the game but I like their look and have heard good things. They run about a half size small. I wear a 10 men's shoe (44 in Shimano) and I had to go to a 44.5 in Giro. They feel a little more responsive and have better power transfer than my Shimanos. Toebox is a little tighter so if you have wide feet, go with the HV model. They are a little harder to walk in but I'm not really walking around in them much anyways so that doesn't bother me. I've heard of some durability issues so I'll update at the end of the season. Love them so far on my first few rides.

They feel great

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I wear a 42 in Sidi and rode sidi for over a decade. I finally decided to jump and try giro. Glad I did. I can save some serious cash and still get a great shoe; in fact I would argue that my sidi felt too rigid and rough compared to these shoes. The giro just hugged my feet better than sidi; never thought that would happen. I was worried about the size; I wear 42 sidi but heard I would need to run a 41.5. I went ahead and ordered the 42 giro and worked fine but if you have any questions I would order slightly smaller if your right on the edge of sizes. 2 seasons later and they still are holding up extremely well to the rocky terrain of Moab and Colorado riding.

Sizing is waaaaay off

I usually wear a 43 in euro sizes. I ordered a 44.5 because I wanted a bigger fit for winter socks. These fit more like a 41. I couldn't cram my toes in even with thin summer socks. Good looking shoes, but returning them.

I wear an 11.5 in all Nike and Vans shoes. I ordered the 45 in these and it was a tiny bit too tight (and I wear them pretty tight). In terms of construction and quality, they seemed solid.

these shoes run true to size, smaller or...

these shoes run true to size, smaller or bigger? On Specialized 47 fits OK for me, but with Louis Garneau Terra Grip, 47 is too small. Which size should I use with Giro shoes?

I ordered a 42 and I wear a 42 in Sidi. I heard you need to order slightly smaller size so I was told to order a 41.5 but I felt I might like some wiggle room with swelling in the heat of moab and colorado riding. Worked out fine for me. I wear thin/med socks.
