Item # GIR004D

Wind protection for Lycra-free zones.

We freely admit that we love Lycra, but we do like to save it for when we're out training or racing. For a night out with friends or a morning commute, we prefer clothing to kit, but we still look for certain cycling-related performance elements. The all-new Giro Wind Guard Hoodie straddles this line nicely, and we think it's about time.

The Wind Guard combines Polartec Shearling Grid material with strategically placed wind protection panels to provide an elemental barrier on the outside with a fleece touch on the inside. The hood has a brim that snaps up or extends, depending on conditions, and the garment features a full-length zipper and the deep hand pockets you'd expect on a hoodie. File under: keeping your hands warm at stoplights.

The Wind Guard's fit falls nicely between a Lycra jersey and a typical hoodie, giving you the option of wearing it as a thermal layer or as an outer layer that won't catch the wind. The understated styling will also complement your favorite jeans or casual shorts — a feature we appreciate after trying (and failing) for years to gracefully pair a brightly-colored, logo-bedazzled cycling jacket with a pair of 501s.

The Giro Wind Guard Hoodie - Men's is available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large in the color Jet Black.

they nailed it

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

It's not often that a cycling apparel company creates a product, much less a full line that makes you feel genuinely confident and dapper off the bike. New Road is that line. This jacket is technically sound and earns credits for using the same checkered material found on the Patagonia R1 line of pull-overs. It breaths incredibly well and provides ample ventilation. The hood has a nice visor for times when you are caught off-guard in a storm. Keep in mind that the front it wind stopper but not the shoulders or back, so don't treat it as a rain coat, but just do as prescribed. Commute in style or put it on specifically for the night out. It's a great travel jacket because of this versatility.
