Carefully crafted road shorts.

Designed to integrate with the New Road UnderShorts but more than capable of teaming up with any liner, Giro's New Road Ride Women's OverShorts are comfortable, durable, and stylish. They're made of a tough, lightweight, and slightly stretchy blend of nylon and spandex with a crotch gusset that provides unfettered mobility in the saddle and out. An 8-inch inseam works well on the bike and in town, and a zippered rear pocket keeps keys, cash, and phones safely tucked away.

Great style and function for a commute.

I really wanted to like these shorts since they had potential to transfer well to general off-the-bike life, but the Giro fit model's proportions are just too different from mine. The search continues…

In general, these shorts run small, so I ordered up a size to counter that. The waist fit pretty well, but the rest just sat awkwardly and was oddly bunchy around the hips. I'm built a bit like a rail though, so someone with slightly more curves would have better luck with the cut on these.

The overall construction on these shorts is great - the paneling and seams look like they'd hold up to some serious saddle time, and Giro clearly thought through how to lay everything out to work well while riding. The fabric had appropriate stretchiness to avoid pinching but felt slightly scratchy and stiff. I suspect it would break in and soften over time though. Good potential for water repellency, which would be great on the bike. I'm just not sure how comfortably they'd wear off the bike if the fabric didn't soften up.

Bottom line, if the proportions and fabric work for you, these are awesome commute shorts that can transition easily into everyday wear if you don't want to drag along another pair of shorts for the day.
