The Giro Feature helmet is already a favorite among riders for its combination of a sleek profile, decently low weight, and a very fair price. It gets even better when it incorporates MIPS, and the result of the mash-up is the Giro Feature MIPS Helmet you see here.
With a little more coverage than traditional helmets, the Giro Feature Helmet offers the protection needed for truly progressive off-road riding. Large vents aid with low-speed cooling on the climb, while the In Form fit system features a one-hand fit and stability adjustment. The in-mold polycarbonate shell and EPS foam liner give you safety-certified protection without excess weight or bulk. Super Fit engineering delivers a near-custom fit for comfort and security. The adjustable moto-style visor keeps the low-sitting sun or rain out of your eyes, and the featherweight webbing with Slimline buckle keeps you nice and streamlined, so you can focus on more important things, like the trail ahead.
So what's up with this MIPS business? The MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) structure integrates easily into the Feature's bones without altering its look. MIPS is essentially the separation of the EPS foam shell from the retention basket (the part that grabs your head) via a semi-floating suspension system. This lets the shell move independently of the lining, helping the helmet diffuse and redirect the force caused by impacts. Developed in Scandinavia more than 10 years ago, the MIPS system has been continually revised and applied to an ever-growing number of helmets in different sports.
