Item # GIR007K

Featuring greater protection.

The Giro Feature helmet is already a favorite among riders for its combination of a sleek profile, decently low weight, and a very fair price. It gets even better when it incorporates MIPS, and the result of the mash-up is the Giro Feature MIPS Helmet you see here.

With a little more coverage than traditional helmets, the Giro Feature Helmet offers the protection needed for truly progressive off-road riding. Large vents aid with low-speed cooling on the climb, while the In Form fit system features a one-hand fit and stability adjustment. The in-mold polycarbonate shell and EPS foam liner give you safety-certified protection without excess weight or bulk. Super Fit engineering delivers a near-custom fit for comfort and security. The adjustable moto-style visor keeps the low-sitting sun or rain out of your eyes, and the featherweight webbing with Slimline buckle keeps you nice and streamlined, so you can focus on more important things, like the trail ahead.

So what's up with this MIPS business? The MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) structure integrates easily into the Feature's bones without altering its look. MIPS is essentially the separation of the EPS foam shell from the retention basket (the part that grabs your head) via a semi-floating suspension system. This lets the shell move independently of the lining, helping the helmet diffuse and redirect the force caused by impacts. Developed in Scandinavia more than 10 years ago, the MIPS system has been continually revised and applied to an ever-growing number of helmets in different sports.

great helmet

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

light weight. sleek. my husband is teaching out kids helmet safety by wearing one too. plus mips is great protection. love this helmet.

Comfortable coverage

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I grabbed the Feature a few weeks ago and love that it provides more coverage on the back of my head than my previous helmet. It's not quite as ventilated and with no ponytail port to keep my hair off my neck I'm sure it will be on the warm side. Nevertheless, I'll take the added protection any day!

Great lid, questionable MIPS liner

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

So far, so good. The graphic seems durable and the fit is spot on (way better than companies that combine S/M and L/XL). I haven't experienced it being any warmer than any other helmet I've had, ventilation seemed adequate for a 3/4 shell.

I'm not fully convinced that the MIPS liner in this helmet will do much in the event of a crash. Compared to a lot of other designs in my moto helmets it seems like this is just a cheap way to sell something as having a MIPS liner. However, the price difference over the non-MIPS version is minimal, so why not have the added protection in the event that you need to use it?

Good helmet

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I decided to pick up the Feature since it was on sale. Out of the box it seems great, easy to adjust, comfortable, and fits true to size. My only gripe was that one of the velcro patches that holds the left front pad in place was missing, leaving the pad to slide around. I fixed that my taking a piece of velcro out of my old helmet and sticking it in place. Not something I should have to do with a new helmet, but it was an easy fix. The MIPS seems like a great feature and I hope I don't have to test it out. Overall, an unbeatable value at this price point.

Slightly Warm

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Nice helmet, does its job. I'm not really a helmet snob, but this has good adjustments and is quite comfortable. I have a shaved head and 23cm; the medium fits great. The only downside is that it is a little warm, but for the price, it is hard to beat.

Great helmet for price

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Haven't had to test the benefits of the MIPS yet but that's prob a good thing overall solid helmet got the all black really looks nice! has decent air flow wish there was a few more holes honestly can get kinda stuffy up there on really hot days. Would recommend to the others considering and for the price what's not to like!! Keep on rocking BackCountry!

Great helmet for price

ballin on a budget

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Got a super nice helmet at the beginning of the season and cracked it 2 weeks into buying it. Stuck between a rock and a hard place picked this bad larry up and have been stoked. All in all in breaths well, looks good, and with MIPS will protect you head better then anything at this price point. Feel free to reach out with any bike related questions! Always happy to help ensure you get equipped properly for the trails.

MIIIIIIPS

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have both versions of this helmet because I like it so much although while one is more for style and this one for functionality. The MIPS liner seems very promising and the fit is identical to the standard helmet so if you can afford the MIPS, I say do it!

Nice helmet

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This helmet fits great and in form fit sytems helps ensure that. The MIPS is a huge plus and the helmet looks great. It's affordable compared to other MIPS options and could use a few extra vents to help keep the temperature down. Great helmet overall.

MIPS Virgin

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

First MIPS helmet i've owned. Honestly I can't say if it truly works as thankfully I have not smashed my head..knock on wood. Fit is nice and has good adjustability to lock into place. It can get a wee bit hot during the warmer months but for the price and features its a solid lid.

great helmet

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Love this helmet. the MIPS is nice and fit was great. No problems with ventilation in Portland here. A few other people in the office picked one up also that are full time MTB enthusiast.

Super Hot

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Helmet looks great, fits well and took a hard hit but it is poorly vented. This is the hottest bicycle helmet I have ever worn. It's a sub 50 degree helmet at best.

Giro

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Product fit is great. Very comfortable and I feel well protected. It is a little warm in summer months(I think there should be more vents). Overall, 5 stars and Backcountry delivered fast and free!

Great fit

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I feel the helmet is a great fit, however it is a bit warm. I am using this helmet for "cool weather" rides. The ventilation doesn't "breathe" very well. Overall the helmet fits good and has great coverage. I love the color

Comfortable, but hot

  • Fit: True to size

Really comfy helmet, between nice padding and perfect fit (for me) it's easy to forget you're wearing it on a cool day. Ventilation is sacrificed for protection, though, so for an XC ride on in the hot sun, be prepared to sweat.

Mipsssss

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Haven't had th echance to test out the Mips tech - but im stoked to have it on my noggin!

Fits pretty well - comfy, not too constricting!

Love it!!

Too hot and an odd fit

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Although it is comfortable resting on my head, that's where the good fit ends. I could not adjust the sizing wheel on the back of the helmet without using two hands. Whenever I tried I could not help but push the helmet further forward on my head and then I was unable to adjust the wheel. Perhaps it's because the helmet comes down further in the back? In addition, it needs more vents or at least bigger ones. Sweat was pouring down my face on a cool morning ride the first time I wore this helmet. The vents just get too small by the time they reach one's head that they are almost useless. I believe some of the front padding - the MIPs portion? - covers part of some vents.
