Item # GIR0406

Description

With a little more coverage than traditional helmets, the Giro Feature Helmet offers the protection needed for truly progressive off-road biking. Large vents aid with low-speed cooling on the climb, while the In Form fit system features a one-hand fit and stability adjustment. The in-mold polycarbonate shell and EPS foam liner give you safety-certified protection for your head without excess weight or bulk. Super Fit engineering delivers a custom-like fit for comfort and security. The adjustable moto-style visor keeps the low-sitting sun or rain out of your eyes, and the featherweight webbing with Slimline buckle keeps you nice and streamlined, so you can focus on more important things, like the trail ahead.

Here's what others have to say...

Very Uncomfortable on My Head

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

Well made considering the price. Designed well for protection. Unfortunately, painful on my head. Did not fit my head shape and caused painful pressure points, especially one in top back. This could be due to a manufacturing defect in that area. Have not had this problem with any other helmet.

Nice, but too round.

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I got one for my son and he liked it, so I ordered myself one. Well... I've got a really narrow head, and this thing is REALLY round. It's either going to need a lot of extra pads on the sides (which it doesn't come with) or I will return it (which is a breeze with Backcountry).

Looks great, BUT...

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I read and re-read all the reviews from backcountry, MTBR, Pinkbike, Dirt, Amazon...Everything about it, fits what I wanted. I really wanted to use this lid.

I measure right at 56mm, which according to Giro, stats I am Medium. I ordered one up and tracked it all the way to my doorstep. I was so stoked to open it up and get riding! To my dismay, it felt a bit loose no matter how much I tinkered with it. I knew without a doubt that would not cut it out on a trail.

backcountry was awesome in getting the thing sent back and thus, I ordered a Small.

Again, I could not wait to get it out and ride!

Nevertheless...the Small sat way to high on my head and I felt to much pressure on my temples. So, I had to send this one back too.

Bummer for me, I really wanted to use this helmet. Hope the Troy Lee A-1 fits better. I had to give it 3 stars based just on the fitment. I'm sure I could have made the Medium work, but I did not want to chance it with my brain inside.

Nice Helmet but...

This helmet is a great value for the quality of the product. I have 2 riding partners that have the same helmet and really like it. The problem I had was my head shape is oval and it really was uncomfortable on my forehead. It was painful to wear after a short period. My friends have no problem with its comfort so I just think it's the shape of my head. Perhaps better suited to a more round melon.

Great purchase

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

We ordered the S for our 12 yr old son and he loves it - the fit and the look. The red is really cool and he is very happy with this helmet.

Great fit for kids

I got a small for each of my kids and it fits each of them perfectly. The fit system on the small has a wide size range and adjusts enough to fit my 4, 6 and 8 year old.

Great Helmet

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

For the price, this is a great mountain bike helmet. I initially got it as a short term replacement for a cracked helmet and I ended up using it much longer than anticipated. It fits well, covers the back of the head well, and is pretty light weight. Highly recommended.

Very comfortable, good looking helmet

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I purchased a new helmet because my old one kept slipping forward no matter how much I tightened it. I've only been able to use this new one on a couple of rides, but so far so good. It is very comfortable and does not slip down to block my vision. They white helmet has a red chin strap, which is good looking (and will probably stay cleaner that a white one). I have long hair and, as with any helmet I've used so far, my hair gets stuck against the pads inside, which is annoying when I remove the helmet but unavoidable I assume. Otherwise, no complaints!

Great Fit, Great Profile

Sick of bike helmets that feel perched and make your head look like a mushroom? Well this has a much sleeker profile and great protection for the back of the head. It does look more like a snow sports helmet, but that works just fine for me.

Great Helmet

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I really like the feature helmet. I took a good crash on one and replaced it for another. I also think it is one of the better looking helmets available, but not the best venting.

Great helmet ... BUT

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is helmet is light weight, fits real well and is very comfortable. BUT - the chin strap buckle is so weak that when I yawned it popped open. I find it takes very little force to open the buckle. I am afraid that if I go down, the slightest amount of force will pop the buckle and then my head. If that buckle was not so weak, I'd give it a five.

Fantastic trail helmet

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I arrived at this helmet after toasting a POC and being short on cash...I thought this was more value-oriented, but I was very impressed. Overall it feel lighter on your head, and less bulky, while offering the same or similar coverage, especially on the back of your head. I have always thought Giro had great fit, and that hasn't changed. The strap setup is very light and simple, with no adjustabilty other than length...which is ideal, as it sits closer and more comfortably around your ears. Ventilation is surprisingly good despite the smaller vents. Moto-style adjustable visor is a clutch feature too.

Great Value All Mountain Lid

the feature provides the same great coverage as helmets that cost twice as much. it looks good, easily and securely adjusts, and has a good sized visor that i really appreaciate on sunset rides. while i haven't tried on POC's or Bell's offerings, i am reasonably sure that this helmet doesn't vent as well as others, i usually strap it to my bag on long climbs, then wear it on the way down. on cross country rides, my head gets toasty. the helmet has a couple issue which i have included pictures of below. in general, i think it's a good helmet that provides great coverage. for more money, you can get better ventilation and improved safety features, but on a budget, this is a great choice.

Chin Strap

the chin strap is not doubled back and stitched. as a result, the strap sometimes works out of the rubber holder. when that happens, the chin strap is able to loosen some.

Chin Strap

Padding

all the padding is removable so it can be washed. unfortunately, the padding towards the front has part of the fit system going through it. i haven't figured out how to get it out without cutting it or messing with the fit system...

Padding
Responded on

so i finally just pulled hard on the fit system and it popped out. it still seems to work great so i guess that how it's done.
