The Giro's Women's Feather gives trail riders a happy medium.

Before enduro became the new fixie, mountain bikers either used XC or full-face helmets -- there was no middle ground. In this day and age, however, helmets like the Women's Feather from Giro give trail riders a happy medium that's lightweight while offering better coverage and an effective, adjustable visor.

But that is not all that's adjustable, Giro's In Form fit system uses a wheel to fine tune the helmet's tightness against your head. It's also able to move up and down vertically with an interlocking strip and pins so you can ensure not only a personal fit, but a proper interface with goggles or glasses.

Giro's featherweight webbing and slim-line buckle guarantee pinch-free comfort, while an in-mold polycarbonate shell and EPS liner ensure impact protection. 12 vents are designed to push and pull hot air to keep you cool on summer riders and long climbs. The Giro Women's Feather Helmet comes in two sizes and two colors; Small and Medium, and Matte Green and Matte White.

  • In-Mold polycarbonate shell with EPS liner
  • Adjustable moto-style visor
  • In Form system with adjustable dial
  • 12 vents with internal channeling

Sizes run big

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

My girlfriend has this helmet. And it fits well, vents well. It's just a little too big for her. Medium size is larger than most helmets

A simple life-saving helmet

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I chose the Giro Feather because of the clean look and rigid visor. A few months after making this my go-to cooler weather helmet (due to minimal vents), I crashed headfirst into a rock wall at medium speed while riding Fins n' Things in Moab. The helmet suffered a few dents and scratches, and I suffered just a few bruises on my arms and hip. Wearing a helmet saved me from a tbi, and I surely would have damaged my eye socket had it not been for the "moto-syle visor," So, I recommend this as a great helmet for aggressive cross-country style mtb riders at a lower price point then other enduro-style helmets. I give it only 3 starts because I wish it had more vents, which is unfavorable for sweaty climbs and attaching a night light mount.

Not as funny looking on your head

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I was a little worried by the product photos that this would look funny on my head but to my delight it's a pretty rad looking helmet. Light weight, comfortable, stays in place. For the price I'm super happy. I normally wear a small in helmets and the small fit me well. The visor is a nice touch too for keeping sun out of your eyes. Recommended for the price, style and fit.

thanks for your review - I'm interested in this helmet, but am concerned with how it will fit a pony tail (this is a problem for all the more protective helmets!)... how do you wear your hair with it?

There is not a good place to pull thru a pony tail. I tuck mine under the bottom and tie it close to my neck. If you don't mind your hair tucked close to your neck than there is no problem. However if you want it up off your neck, then this probably won't work well for you.

Super Light and Comfy

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I recently received the Matte Black version of the Feather and have put it through about 5 rides now. It's super comfy and light, which is great so it doesn't bounce around my head while riding over rough terrain when properly fitted to my noggin. The size small fit perfectly as I have a mini head (52 cm) and it seems to breath really well so far. My only complaint is that the straps seem pretty cheap compared to my other Giro helmet and they don't have under-the-ear adjustments. Fortunately it fits perfectly there, but might be something to consider before buying it. Other than that, I'm pretty stoked on it and can't wait to put it through a summer of shredding.

Are the Womens sizes the same as the Mens...

Are the Womens sizes the same as the Mens for helmets?

Best Answer

Some helmets are made for a specific head shape, so the sizing chart right under the color option is your best reference. Women's helmets are sometimes tailored to fit a more feminine head, and vice-versa for the Men's. Many times though, women's helmets just have more feminine styling.

With the Giro brand, the sizes seem to be the same between Men's and Women's, ie. a men's medium fits the same circumference head as a women's medium. The in-form fit system should help you tailor the fit to your particular needs.

Good luck on your search for the right helmet! Hope this helps!
