As kids, laced shoes were the bane of our cycling adventures. The laces would stretch, flap about, and get caught in the gears. Giro corrected these issues though, replacing the usual fastening systems with classic laces on the Empire ACC limited Shoes. The result is seven contact points instead of the usual three, giving you a much more precise fit than buckles and hook-and-loop straps can hope to.
The lace issues detailed above were addressed with sturdier, non-stretch laces with metal grommets to reinforce the two top holes on either side. Giro also added a little loop on the tongue to tuck the laces into once they're tied. No stretching, no deforming, no flapping, no catching.
The laces secure a single piece of Evofiber, an exceptionally lightweight and highly breathable material that features perforations for added cooling. The single-piece upper is sleek, clean, and reduces weight. The ultralight and ultra-stiff EC90 ACC Carbon Sole comes courtesy of Giro's sister company, Easton. One of the stiffest soles in the industry, it features a low 6.5mm stack height that puts your foot to the pedal so you can put power into the road with minimal lost power.
The odor- and bacteria-resistant SuperNatural Fit Kit insoles are interchangeable to accommodate for different amounts of arch support, a feature that any cyclist who has had to pull over and massage hot spots out of her feet will appreciate.
