Item # GIR002X

The demands of freeride and enduro are pretty similar, and those parameters are what Giro set out to fulfill with the Cipher Helmet. The lightweight, fiberglass shell provides the strength and protection your melon needs, without producing a fatiguing pendulum effect on extended descents.

That shell is molded with channeled ventilation at the browline to get the most airflow without any sacrifice to structural integrity. On the interior, plush padding is anti-static and anti-microbial, and furthering that, they can be removed to wash. For visibility, the visor is adjustable without tools, and custom-injected gaskets around the port ensure excellent field of vision.

On the tech side of things, Giro's made sure the Cipher's ready for your needs. This includes an integrated P.O.V. camera mount plus built-in, TuneUps speaker pockets for ear buds. The Giro Cipher Helmet comes in sizes Small through X-Large and five colors.

  • Vinyl Nitrile jaw line padding
  • Eight vents with internal channeling
  • X-Static antimicrobial padding
  • Tool-less adjustable visor with custom-injected gaskets

Did the job!!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Great cost for a lightweight, eye-pleasing, comfortable helmet. I decided to submit this review after tumbling down a trail at the lifts. Helmet did a great job (multiple hits taken). I can honestly say I never even really "felt" the impacts. Thumbs up.

Does the job!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have used this helmet on a few park days now. It is comfortable, even for a huge head like mine, the Large was big enough. I wear close to an 8 in hat size and most Large helmets are way too small for me.

Great Helmet

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This helmet is super comfortable, and light weight. It will get a little hot during long summer rides but that problem will exist with any full face helmet. However over all I have been really impressed with it!

Keep That Noggin' Safe & Crush Park Laps

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have a ~22" head and typically wear a size Medium. I went Medium with this helmet and it fits great.

-Looks good. I was told that one of the most important things about helmets is for them to look good because you'll always wear it. Whether that's your reasoning or not, you can't deny this helmet looks good.

-Fits perfect and snug, but not tight. I've taken a few minor crashes and the helmet has worked very well and protective. The chinbar is very solid and I have no doubt it would do its job should it come to a crash like that. Just like a protective full face should

-Has a built in (and removable) GoPro mount tucked just above the helmet's visor..

- I had to dig for any real cons, but the GoPro mount rattles a bit when being used. Not sure if that even counts as a solid con, but something to note.

-Giro has other MIPS equipped helmets, why not this one?

If you're looking to get some solid bike park or shuttle days in and need something to keep the noggin' safe, look no further, this is the helmet for you.

Solid Option for a helmet

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I haven't used this helmet so I can't comment on the quality / durability in a crash but I did try it on and then returned it.

I opted for the Bell Transfer 9 (same price point) due to the Bell having a better fit.

My head is 22.5" and the Medium for the Giro is 21.75 - 23.25in which ran a bit big on me. I think if you're on the small end of the helmet sizing for this it'd be good to look at the Bell Transfer 9.

The Medium on the Bell Transfer 9 is sized for 21.625 - 22.5in and that one fits my head really great.

In the end though, protect your noggin!

never took it off

Got this for my gf for a 2-day mtb clinic in Winter Park during June. She said she never took it and was never overheated or had hot spots. She loved it and got compliments on the design.

    Great Value and Fit

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I have been riding an older model 661 helmet for longer than I should have and this was a welcome upgrade. The profile is not overly bulbous and the wide opening provides great fit for goggles with wider fields of vision. The fit seems true to size and I like my helmets tight and then they can pack out and not slide around. The visor is wide and allows for a covert Go Pro mount just behind the top. Padding inside is moisture wicking and very comfortable and didn't irritate my face whatsoever.

Ventilation was decent and the overall weight is much better than my previous helmet. I look forward to putting this helmet through its paces this summer at the bike parks.

Great Full Face Helmet & True to Size

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Solid Construction. Durable & Removable Liner/Pads. Go Pro Mount Included. Pairs well w/ 100% Accuri Goggles.

    Giro Cipher Helmet

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I had a Giro Remedy helmet for 6 years and it was time to retire it and get a new one. Found this one which is very similar to the remedy and decided to give it a shot. I love how it comes with a Gopro mount on top of the viser. On my old helmet i had to mount a sticky mount on the side of the helmet. The helmet fits nice and snug and has very good padding. Overall impressed with this helmet.

    Hard to Beat

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Compared to previous full-faces I've used this helmet feels the most solid. The jawline has extra padding which keeps the helmet really snug on your face. Nice profile and Giro did a solid hiding the GoPro mount behind the visor so it's out of sight when not in use. Pretty hard to beat this helmet for the price.

    Boyfriend loves it

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I gave this as a gift to my boyfriend and he loves it so far, although he hasn't been able to use it yet. The GoPro mount is super low profile so it doesn't look really nerdy or bulky, and like other reviewers said, the padding around the cheeks is thick. Protect those teeth--the orthodontist isn't cheap! He previously had a Fox helmet in size Large and the Giro Cipher Large fits him pretty perfectly.

He also love that the lining around the ears is a little more open so he can hear better when he has the helmet on. This obviously is beneficial when talking trash on the chair lift.

He also likes the profile of the helmet and that the chin guard doesn't stick out too far like a lot of helmets do.

I actually bought the same one for myself but was too in between the size S and M to keep one.

    Great Helmet

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Gave this as a gift to my brother after he cracked his old one. So far he's spent a week in Whistler, week in Virgin and another season at the Canyon's bike park. The helmet has all the cushion and ventilation like it was brand new still. The weight and comfort has enabled him to lap all day and not think twice about pressure points or chin strap rash. He has a pretty fat head and the Large fits wonderfully.

My 9 year old nephew wants this for skiing. Is that recommended or is the chin coverage too restrictive? Also, what size do you recommend for a 9 year old?

    Hey Elaina,

This helmet isn't recommended for skiing. It is designed for downhill and enduro racing.

The sizing will be based on your nephews head measurement. My guess is he is an XS or S, but without knowing his measurements it's not possible to make an accurate sizing suggestion.

    Pretty solid product

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this helmet because it was affordable and BC didn't have any Troy lee helmets in stock. I have a pretty small head so I bought a small and it fits really well. Lightweight and breathable. I would recommend this helmet if you are looking for an affordable lightweight full face helmet.

    Solid Full Face

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a great full face helmet. Solid, not too heavy, fairly breathable. I would recommend this to anyone but especially someone who is trying to get a full face helmet on a budget. I like the way Giro helmets fit and this is no exception.

    Nice GoPro Mount

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a solid helmet overall, what you would expect since Giro has been making awesome reasonably priced full faces for years. The nice surprise to me that I had no idea this had until receiving mine though, is the gopro mount. It comes with a little plastic mountain you can attach a gopro (or contour I think?) to and the mount snaps into a discrete slot under the visor. So when you aren't filming you don't have to have dorky mounts all over your head, but when it's time to capture that glorious moment you can quickly snap the camera in and go. Super convenience and super sneaky.

Fit is pretty normal, I'm always a large helmet and sure enough the large is great. It has pretty aggressive cheek padding, but that makes it very secure while riding which is nice. And I'm sure it would pay off in a crash as well.

    Protect Yer Noggin

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Put on this helmet and it feels like your dome is transported to a paradise of soft sofa cushions. You wont feel any pressure points on your ride so you can focus on the descents. The face has a huge field of view and the chin piece is nice and compact so nothing obscures the trail. It ventilates well and looks great so people will stop calling you a squid!

    Protect Yer Noggin

    Hey Zach!

Awesome photos, looks like you've been getting after the biking. Thanks for sharing them with the community.

I returned a TLD D3 Pinstripe III for the Giro Cipher with no regrets. The Cipher fit was much better than the D3 and at less than half the cost. This lid at this price can't be beat.
