Sleek safety always comes in first.

Rock your favorite gnarly trail with (almost) reckless abandon thanks to the Giro Athlon Bike Helmet protecting your noggin. Giro’s Roc Loc 4 system gives you a stable, dialed-in fit, while 23 wind-tunnel vents keep your head cool when the competition’s hot on your heels. In-mold technology fuses the shell to the impact-absorbing, EPS liner for a sleeker design and added durability. The Athlon’s P.O.V. visor adjusts up to 15 vertical degrees and won’t rattle as you tackle tricky terrain.

Very comfortable and adjustable.
Sizing chart was useful.

What is the deal with this fit?

No back or side coverage and really wide. Like a big mushroom sitting on top of my head.

As Required

This helmet is replacing a Giro Pneumo that went out valiantly. I like the fit (same adjustable system and the Pneumo). I actually think the Pneumo looked a little better and sleeker, but this one looks and feels solid. So far the ventilation has been acceptable.

Buy a little large

I just fit, possibly should have gone for the large.
Really nice fast head band adjustment, great when I sometimes wear a mask in the cold.
Feels really snug. Did not give me a headache or any thing after an hour or so riding.

Giro Athlon

Be careful with the fit. The inner suspension carriage is flimsy and broke on my third use.

different than pneumo?

had a giro pneumo - it rocked. super light and comfy. i replaced it with an athlon and me no likey. not sure what the deal is. same roc loc system, same company, but it fits different. or my head has changed shape? it light and it will work but i was hoping for better. maybe ill hit a tree this weekend and have a good excuse to buy another hat.

not good fit for me...

I really can't give this helmet good or bad marks as it didn't fit my head. I have difficulty with finding a helmet that fits me well without any pressure points and I've tried on quite a few. I wanted a XC type helmet and the Athlon looked the biz. I measured my head size and it's within the size range for a medium. I have to mention that I'm Asian and I don't have your typical western shaped head. The helmet didn't fit, there was too much pressure on the side around the temple area. It would be damn nice to get a helmet that fits well. I have a giro xen and it's the only I've found that fits ok but not perfect.

I like the Matt White one. Is it good for me if i am a woman? Or do I need to buy the Giro Athlon Women's Bike Helmet? thanks.

Responded on

I know some helmet manufacturers market womens cycling helmets but generally the head of men and women are the same, well I guess the head sizes and nothing else :-) Check you head size and use the sizing chart. I think the matte white looks really good on women.

Is this the same helmet as the Saros but with the visor? It appears identical from the photos and Giro's specs.

Responded on

Apart for the removable visor and what Giro considers MTB colors they are identical. Visor is removable even though this isn't described.
