Item # GIR002W

The evolution of helmets has resulted in some interesting variations over the years, some of which are more far fetching then others. The Giro Aspect Helmet, however, takes an approach that tones down the aggressive vents, slats, and wings that dominate the peloton into a shape that's at home on the daily commute or enjoying a weekend run up the canyon.

For fit, the Aspect uses Giro's Roc Loc Air fit system to offers a secure, comfortable helmet without disrupting ventilation. On the inside of the Aspect, a new Ultrasuede interior with complementing chin padding adds softness to touch points. Also, a removable visor provides protection on sunny rides.

Like traditional Giro helmets, a EPS foam and in-mold polycarbonate shell are used to meet consumer protection standards, but injection molded rubber or aluminum side panels add a new level of style to the Aspect. For safety, Giro uses its Roll Cage internal reinforcement to boost structural integrity in the event on an impact.

The Giro Aspect Helmet comes in sizes Small through X-large, and three colors; Glowing Red, Matte Bungee Cord, and Matte Black.

  • In-Mold polycarbonate shell with EPS liner
  • Injection-molded rubber or aluminum side panels (dependent on color)
  • 19 Wind Tunnel vents with internal channels
  • Removable soft visor
  • Ultrasuede padding and chin strap pad
  • Roc Loc Air fit system

Matte black delamination

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've had this helmet for two years now, and have worn it basically every day for commuting and longer rides. I will say that it's light, breathable, and while it was holding together it looked pretty snazzy. I never used the visor but it felt like good quality, and overall the materials are very pleasing to the touch and eye.

That being said, about 6 months ago the whole thing started falling apart. The thin plastic shell delaminated from the rest of the helmet, turning into useless strips that flapped against the foam in the wind. I ended up ripping two of these off because they were so annoying (and you can see from the picture that the rest are delamming too), so honestly the thing is probably useless in a crash at this point (not to mention no longer waterproof). I never took a spill in it, and I don't think I treated it indelicately. I might've gotten a dud, but I'm pretty unhappy with the quality.

Another thing that never worked was the rubber strip meant to hold the excess webbing for the chin strap in place; this always slipped and is a bit of a nuisance to deal with.

All in all, I love the aesthetic and I think it functioned quite well on longer rides, but I can't recommend it due to the delamination.

Matte black delamination

Great helmet, awkward chin strap.

I ordered the matte black in medium and it fits perfectly but with my 23 inch head there's not much room under the helmet if you want to wear a cap in the winter. I love the fit, the adjustment system, and the style. The one thing I don't like is the chin strap. No amount of adjustment has gotten the right side to lay flat around my ear. I thought maybe the strap would settle in after a few wears but it hasn't and now I'm disappointed I didn't return it when I couldn't adjust it before wearing it out on a few rides. After this winter I'll likely be looking for a new helmet because while I like this one, the strap will drive me nuts, and I've seen other, better designs that won't have this issue.

I am a sucker for unique design. I have an Aeon and Air Attack for rides down the coast or high wind rides. This helmet is interesting, fits wonderfully and looks good. The padding against your forehead is comfortable; but I did notice on the climb it was less comfortable than either the Aeon or Air Attack. Not sure why. Some of the things I don't like are the very soft, thin chin straps. The strap is so thin it will fold over and the colors offered are atrocious. I looked at the white model but who in the world wants a piece of aluminum on the side and the orange/red is pumpkin like. That leaves black which I don't think is safe on a bike and charcoal or bundge. I bought the charcoal model; but would have preferred blue or white/blue. I'll keep the helmet and even wear it around as I like the style but it could be improved with a better chin strap and color offerings. As for replacing those pads, good luck with that.

I was a little skeptical how cool this would keep my head with how few vents there are, but the RocLoc really kept my head cool. Sitting slightly off your head, air really travels right through. This helmet was very comfortable, and light weight. Looks great with a kit, or with street clothes for a trip to the store.

Love this helmet!

Super comfortable, casual-cool. Riding it dirt and road...and getting tons of compliments on it. RocLoc Air keeps the helmet cooler than most other designs, despite the low vent count.
