A one-way ticket to warmth.

Look, we're not saying that you need a different pair of bib shorts for every variation of inclement weather. But, for those of you who live in more temperate climates, you're not going to need full-length bib tights more than a week out of the year -- California, we're looking at you. So, when you're riding in weather that's cold enough for the shivers, but doesn't warrant a parka on your legs, slip on the Giordana Silverline Super Roubaix Bib Shorts.

The Super Roubaix Bib Shorts are made from the patented Super Roubaix fabric. Like all fabrics in the Roubaix family, Super is a winter-weight microfiber that uses an interlocking knit construction. With a fit and external feel similar to standard Lycra, Super Roubaix provides a thicker knit and cozy, fleecy feel against the skin. And not to be counted as a one-trick, warming-only pony, Roubaix efficiently moves moisture away from the skin and retains a high breathability. For extra ventilation, the bib upper has a large micromesh insert on the back. After all, it's hard to stay warm if you're sopping weight. For comfort and warmth, the inner-lining features a brushed surface that creates insulating air pockets that retain body heat. The paneling for the bib shorts is patterned from the popular Silverline summer line, and accordingly, it has a precise fit that won't wrinkle or bunch.

For comfort in the saddle, Giordana included its MC-3 OmniForm chamois. MC-3 is molded with Giordana's high frequency OmniForm technology that removes irritating seams and uncomfortable density clusters. The end result is a chamois with a variable density that feels like it's been molded to your body. It allows a complete freedom of movement, free from abrasion or chafing.

The Giordana Silverline Super Roubaix Bib Shorts are available in the color Black and in five sizes from Small to XX-Large.

At first, I thought that these would be great. They are warm while also being flexible and allowing a great range of movement.
However, I have had two big problems that have made rather unhappy with these.
1. After three rides, I have had the same fuzz problem mentioned in other reviews. The fuzz is right on the chamois is in contact with the saddle. I do not think that these will last very long. I machine wash all of my bibs after every ride and then allow them to drip dry.
2. The material seems to stretch out over the period of a ride. At the beginning of the ride, the material seems to fit fine. However, after 40 miles or so, the material around the waist feels as if it is sagging and I have to pull it up. I am not sure if this is a problem with the materials or the bib straps, but it feels uncomfortable. I only use these for shorter rides now, which is a shame as the pad itself is very comfortable and the bibs do a good job of maintaining warmth.

Why Did These Disintegrate?

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Giordana has always been my bib of choice so nobody was more surprised than me when my Silverline Roubaix bibs started sprouting elastic "fuzz" on the right side back panel, directly above the chamois. And only on that one panel. Nowhere else. Then the chamois came loose and got all wadded up. Bummer. I liked the way they fit/felt. Sure wish they lasted a lot longer.

Why Did These Disintegrate?

2 pairs of mine have done the same thing.

How did you wash them? I always hand wash my Assos bibs, however I just ordered some Silverline bibs before I saw this so I'm a tad concerned now.

Great for cold days.

I have mid weight and thermal bib tights, but use these for even more temperature range. Here in New England, we are apt to start of at freezing and go to 65 and back down again. By using these and winter leg warmers, you have a excellent means to regulate your temperature. And the fit is first rate.
