Giordana Silverline Men's Shorts $119.95
Your legs will thank you.
There are many reasons to prefer shorts to bib shorts, with one of the most prominent having to do with the natural functions of your body. Shorts also make life easier for those who don't wish to hassle with the potential abrasion of bib straps. However, as we're sure you've noticed, the manufacturing focus has long been on bib shorts, leaving second-tier technology remaining for shorts. But, if you need a solid pair of shorts that sacrifice nothing in the fabric or chamois departments, Giordana's Silverline Shorts are what you've been looking for.
Silverline is Giordana's gift to people who want amazing value for their money. These shorts feature a multi-fabric construction, starting with Moxie at the exterior thigh panels. With a fabric weight of 210g/m2, this material provides a slightly compressive fit in order to minimize the power-sapping effects of road vibration and oscillation. However, due to its nylon/spandex composition, the material is remarkably conforming, regardless of its muscle supporting properties. At the inner thigh, Giordana placed its Zaffiro fabric. And while its position on the shorts plays directly to added durability at a high point of abrasion, its highly compact weave provides a balanced, multi-directional elasticity that aids in your power output.
Rising up towards the core region, we found that Giordana's Core Contour System trickled down from its higher end offerings. Essentially, this system uses a micro-mesh fabric that wraps the waist with anatomically designed inserts in order to eliminate bunching in the riding position. The mesh also supplies the core with ample ventilation, while wicking moisture away from the skin. This process is essential, given that the overlapping of the jersey and shorts creates a highly potential hot zone in this region.
Securing the fit are Giordana's new LoPro 45 leg cuffs. These are two 45mm wide, soft printed bands that provide security through an ultra-thin silicone gripper. The system ensures a harmonious combination of freedom of movement, supple comfort, and abrasion-free hold at the leg.
For the chamois, the Silverline shorts feature Giordana's Nimbo O.F. insert. The answer to consumer response, the Nimbo provides more substantial padding than Giordana's top-tier, Cirro. Now, the Nimbo provides a variable density that ranges from 4 to 13mm at its thickest point. To eliminate abrasion, the top layer of the chamois consists of a subtly textured polyester microfiber. In fact, this texture is actually a square-shaped recess that increases ventilation without retaining a drop of moisture. Under this is a layer of 3mm thick expanding memory foam that's guaranteed to retain its original shape over the life of the shorts. And finally, is the third layer of 10mm thick open cell padding. This has been low-heat-formed in order to avoid compressing the foam. More importantly, though, its shape has been designed to add support to the regions that need it, not those that don't. Accordingly, the Nimbo provides targeted support to the glute panels and pudendal nerve regions, while a prostrate relief channel keeps pressure off of sensitive nerve endings.
The Giordana Silverline Shorts are available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large and in the colors Black with Black Leg Band and Black with Silver Leg Band.

- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Ordered a large for my 34" waist and they are very tight. XL would be preferable. I do not like the trend of a thicker chamois. This one has variable thickness which makes it ok (not great). The part that disappointed me the most is the seams. They are not flat. After a 40m ride, I had sore "stripes" on the front of my hips and legs where the seams were. Also, the stitching is coming apart on one side of the chamois. I expected more at this price point.
Don't believe the size chart.
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I bought these originally in a large. I have a 33-34"waist, the large says they run to 36 but these were TIGHT. I went with the XL and they fit nicely though the leg bands ended up a little loose and they're a little longer than I'd like. Also my first impression of their overall comfort was not favorable but after washing them I'm pretty happy with the comfort aspect
Like the Bib better
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
Compared to the Giordana bib I bought, these seemed too tight. Love the bib.
