Giordana Silverline Men's Bib Shorts $149.95
Look for the Silverlin-ing.
Contrary to popular belief, quality bib shorts don't have to cost more than your average training wheelset. Case in point are the Giordana Silverline Bib Shorts. Finally, the Silverline has begun to receive trickle-down technology from FormaRed. For a fraction of the price, the Silverline utilizes compressive fabric technologies and Giordana's Core Contour System.
Giordana used its patented Moxie fabric for the much of the Silverline shorts construction. With a nylon/spandex composition weight of 200g/m2, the Silverlines take on an effective compressive nature. However, we wouldn't go as far as to call these bib shorts a compression piece. Instead, while assisted blood circulation will help your anaerobic output, we find that Moxie's most vital characteristics involve the inhibiting of muscle of oscillation from road vibration -- a common component to early onset fatigue. Additionally, the material has been treated in order to accelerate the transfer of moisture away from the skin. So, you'll be riding dry and controlled, regardless of your exertion level.
Moving to the inner legs and seat panel, Giordana placed an even stronger fabric called Zaffiro. This material is a certified Power Lycra with a composition weight of 200g/m2. But, unlike Moxie, Zaffiro features a purposefully denser weave with Giordana's SUPER 40 construction technology. This guarantees a continuation of Moxie's aforementioned characteristics, only with a higher level of durability and friction-reduction at the highest points of saddle abrasion. Around the area of the core, the Laser utilizes Kite mesh panels in order to effectively regulate your core temperature. Additionally, Giordana placed mesh fabric around the waist as part of its Core Contour System. And while this system used to be exclusive to FR-C, it's trickled down to the Silverline series, only it forgoes the carbon fibers. Basically, the mesh material wraps the waist with anatomically designed inserts that eliminate bunching in the riding position. The mesh also provides ample ventilation, assisting in your thermo-regulation as your heart rate climbs.
As for the fit, the Silverline benefits from Giordana's innovative contoured cut. Essentially, the bib shorts are created on a curve in order to clone your body in the cycling position. By doing this, abrasion is minimized, and fabric bunching and pinching is eliminated. To secure this position, Giordana incorporated its micromesh bib straps and LoPro 45 leg cuffs. The uppers features a controlled stretch that anatomically regulates flexibility and movement. Additionally, this micromesh is highly-breathable and an efficient transporter of moisture. At the cuffs, the new LoPro 45's design uses a wide, low-profile cuff that holds strong while maintaining an aerodynamic presence. And for further comfort, the entirety of the bib shorts have been constructed with four-needle flatlock stitched seams.
The bib shorts' chamois is one that Giordana touts as being one of the most advanced in the industry -- the Nimbo O.F.. At the skin layer, the Nimbo utilizes a polyester microfiber to minimize skin irritation and abrasion. Below the skin layer, the Nimbo has a variable-density pad which has been perforated. This aids in ventilation by moving moisture to the perimeter of the chamois where accelerated evaporation can occur. Additionally, the pad has been thermo-formed in one piece and features a prostrate relief channel. So, comfort to your sensitive areas is ensured, while the pad's singular formation means that the pad will conform to your movements in the saddle and return to its original shape afterwards.
The Giordana Laser Compression Bib Shorts are available in six sizes from Small to XXX-Large and in the colors Black/black leg band, Black/silver leg band, Black/blue leg band, Black/orange leg band, Black/red leg band, Black/light blue leg band, Black/fluo yellow leg band.

Straps are Uncomfortable
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
I was not impressed with the straps and returned the bib. I replaced it with the laser and love them!

Just had these for a few rides but already I'm thinking they are my new favorites. My only complaint about the design is that the straps are quite narrow. Great materials, sewn well, and good chamois. A caution about sizing-I wear Large in Pearl Izumi, Sugoi, Assos, Hincapie, and Bellwether. I'm just a little too big for Mediums and Large is comfortable. As you read through the item description above take note of several mentions of 'compressive'. and 'compression'. These Giordana fit very snugly! They are between a Medium and Large-be forewarned!
Follow up: My wife is a Personal Trainer and a runner and has been wearing compression clothing for some time now. She reminded me that by definition and design the materials must fit tight. The key is to take time to put the shorts on without tugging and ripping fabric or seams. Once on, it's like a second skin and you forget about them.
And what makes a good ride great is if you never think about your butt or your feet!

These have quickly become my new favorite shorts, especially for longer rides.

recommendations for cleaning bib portion of the shorts?
solid bib, but chamois not up to par
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
u get what you pay for? i like this bib, good fit, good feel and compression... versatile black with silver trim, and a good price, but i think the trade off in price is in the quality of the bib. It's adequate for 1 hour rides but any longer and I start to get a little chafe at the bottom of the buttock crease. It's not a seam or anything, i just think the padding quality is not as good as you'd get in a more expensive bib.
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I've owned several sets of Castelli, Capo, Cannondale, hincapie and other random brands of bib shorts over the years, and this set has set itself apart! Two things become obvious right from the start; first the compression/muscular support is beyond any other set I've owned without being constricting at all, and second the bands literally grip the skin with zero gaps, contouring perfectly around the lower thigh above the knee (the term 2nd skin comes to mind). (My Capo shorts do come in a close second.)
Fit is true--I am thick-legged, and at 5'11" 200, XL is a perfect fit. I only wish they had more in my size in stock.
