Giordana PolyPro Knitted Neck Gaiter $29.95
A knit gaiter to keep cold air out of your jersey.
Sometimes you just need a little extra layer to keep cold air from creeping into your winter jacket. And lucky for you, the Giordana PolyPro Neck Gaiter does just that.
Constructed from polypropylene, this seemingly simple tube-shaped accessory slips over your head and tucks into your jacket collar. The gaiter is high enough to cover your neck and act as a place to tuck your chin when cold winds start to blow. It was constructed of knit polypropylene. Now, you're probably wondering what in the world this material is? After all, polypropylene sounds similar to polyester — so what's the difference? Well, polypropylene and polyester are both polymers, meaning that they're essentially plastics. However, where they differ is that polypropylene is hydrophobic to the point that it's unable to absorb water. And, as a result, it spreads moisture out over a larger surface area, which rapidly accelerates evaporation. So, in short, these fibers ensure that moisture is wicked away, keeping you dry and warm. Additionally, the knit gaiter features a soft finish that provides a high level of comfort against the skin.
The Giordana PolyPro Knitted Neck Gaiter is available in one size in the color Grey/black.

Too tight and can't breath through it
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
I ordered this gator as a transition piece from Winter to cold-blowing Spring. My winter one is marino wool and is broader at the bottom than the top so it stays inside my jersey with no draftiness. The marino wool is also nice and breathable. So, when I got this I realized how nice my Winter one is, because the Giodana is tight around the neck (and I'm female), will not offer the draftproofiness of my other one, and is suffocating to breath through. So, I'd say no-go on this one.
The one I like is Raffa, and would love Competitive Cyclist to offer their products again.
The most underrated winter accessory
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
It seems that much of the buzz in cold weather cycling is around shoe covers and gloves, but the neck gaiter is by far the most under-appreciated accessory. When paired with a wind vest, it extends your riding well into the fall. When paired with a winter cycling cap and jacket, you cover pretty much every crevice that cold can creep into on winter rides. The best part is how you can roll it up over your face or down to your neck to account for changes in temperature (ie, when you're climbing, descending, etc.). You do have to take off your helmet to remove the neck gaiter if it gets too warm, but this is hardly even a consideration in my book. Since its just as important to look good on the bike as be comfortable, its nice that the black on black Giordana graphics don't conflict with other brands of jackets, jerseys, etc.
