Description

Winter is unpredictable. Some days in the saddle only call for a shell, while others demand a suit of armor. Lucky for you, Giordana's brand new FormaRed Zero Women's Jacket has you covered for every possible situation. Combining the most precise, anatomic fit on the market with startlingly advanced technological materials, the FormaRed Zero Jacket is the last jacket that you'll ever need.

Giordana constructed the FormaRed Zero jacket with a two-part design. The jacket consists of a shell made from the multi-layer HD44 fabric, and a removable, insulating vest. HD44 is comprised of three layers, with a wind-resistant outer-layer. Both smooth and similar in texture to softshell, this surface acts as a barrier between you and frigid winds. Situated between the inner-lining and shell is a WindTex membrane. While WindTex does aid in wind-protection, contrary to its name, the primary role of WindTex in HD44 is as a water repellent. The thin layer blocks seepage from the shell, keeping the skin dry without obstructing the transfer of vapor from sweat. However, with a complete DWR coating to the shell, the membrane won't be seeing much moisture. Against the skin, HD44 uses a soft, low-pile material to both insulate and wick away moisture. It works hand-in-hand with the cut in order to capture air above the skin. However, it draws perspiration out to the surface of the jacket in order to maintain a consistent internal temperature. Altogether, the material provides complete protection from the wind, water, and cold.

The FormaRed Zero removable vest is made from Giordana's revolutionary Heat Reflect material. This fabric uses a microscopic coating of vaporized aluminum -- think of the system operating like those shiny emergency blankets. The coating reflects up to 75% of your body heat back to the insulation layer, and by Giordana's estimate, it experiences up to 38 degrees less heat loss.

And while the fabrics of the FormaRed jacket are superb, the fit is what makes it Giordana. As Giordana puts it, the FormaRed is simple without being basic. It features a slim cut that guarantees an ideal insulation. And to make certain that you have a full freedom of movement in or out of the saddle, the FormaRed uses a multi-panel, cycling specific construction. Further aiding the cut are the addition of stretch panels of WindTex along the ribs. Not only providing a malleable shape to the jacket, the stretch panels are also highly breathable and contribute to the jacket's thermo-regulation. The rear hem of the FormaRed has also been elongated to ensure protection from wheel-spray or rainfall when your're stretched over the hoods.

To keep everything in place, the FormaRed Zero jacket has a silicone gripper along the waist. Giordana also included a full-length zipper that's been backed by a wind-resistant flap. The tall collar uses a doubled-over Super Roubaix fabric construction to ensure that no cold air infiltrates the internal insulation layer. Other accouterments include three rear pockets, a zippered stowaway compartment that's MP3 player compatible, and reflective elements throughout the jacket for extra visibility in low-light conditions.

The Giordana FormaRed Zero Women's Jacket is available in the colors Black/black and in five sizes from X-Small to X-Large.

Here's what others have to say...

The description says that this jacket...

The description says that this jacket includes a "a detachable hood" which is one of the reasons I purchased it over the cheaper option. The jacket arrived yesterday - no hood. Was there supposed to be one? Don't see where it would attach...

I looked on both the Giordana site, and on *Gitabike.com (official importers of this line).

This jacket wasn't even listed on the Giordana site, only the regular FRC jacket!

On www.gitabike.com, they have it listed; there is no hood listed in their description.

Suggest visiting both sites for more (accurate?) info; can still purchase Giordana here.

Hope this Helps,

Have a Happy & Healthy New Year!

I have the FR-C jacket (the "regular" version); has anyone actually had a opportunity to compare these two jackets? Is this one really worth the extra $ ?

Am very familiar with the whole line, except for this particular jacket. So anyone, male/female, who has any actual ownership experience, and has worn both versions so as to be able to compare, would love your feedback! And I'm sure other's would benefit, too.

Thanks a bunch!
