A legend becomes even more legendary.

How many fabrics does it take to make one of the world's best jerseys? Feel like you've heard this one before? Well, the answer is embodied in the Giordana FormaRed Carbon Jersey and the answer is actually five. If it seems like overkill, keep in mind that this is the top jersey offering from Giordana. So, whether you're calling it FormaRed, FRC, or that one really nice Giordana jersey, you're talking about highest levels of Italian quality.

Starting with the bulk of the jersey's construction, Giordana went with its slightly compressive and incredibly soft Asteria 2.0 fabric. With a nylon/Lycra composition weight of 140g/m2, the FormaRed Carbon (FRC) jersey provides a high-level of muscle support, nearly approaching the medical compression level (240g/m2). So, at FRC's denier, you can't expect much promotion of blood flow to the heart, but your muscle groups will receive some assistance at resisting road vibration and oscillation. Additionally, the material's threads per centimeter (TPC) is among the highest available on the market. In fact, prior to Asteria 2.0, the highest thread count hovered around 36 TPC. This means that, compared to most competition, the FRC is softer, more conforming, and has a higher level of wicking capability. And remarkably, Asteria 2.0 achieves this at a lighter weight than most Lycra blends. Why is this important? Well, if you've worn compressive fabrics, you'll have notice that their heavy in comparison to traditional Lycra. So, this fabric encompasses their key traits without the detriment of a weighty, poorly-breathing composition.

For moisture management, Asteria 2.0 features a honeycomb knit construction that rapidly pulls moisture away from the skin. From there, the moisture rapidly evaporates at the surface due to the fabric's new treatment. However, with Asteria's breathability being coupled with the ultralight Kite mesh panels at the underarms and inner-collar, thermo-regulation and core temperature are so well managed that your perspiration will greatly reduced. But, should you need to perform an on-the-fly heat dump during an HC, the zipper is equipped with a full-length camlock zipper.

Now, you're probably starting to wonder where the 'carbon' is in FormaRed Carbon? Well, it's actually covering the back and side panels -- Host Carbon to be exact. Essentially, this material features a lightweight composition with a carbon fiber filament. Why? Essentially, with the carbon filament, material stretch becomes omnidirectional and controlled, but not just in the supportive sense. Basically, the carbon reinforces the honeycomb-knit Lycra, making it lighter, yet stronger, and allowing to universally stretch in all directions, not just four-way. Additionally, the carbon fiber blocks out static and rogue atmospheric electrical interference for an increased anaerobic output and a delayed onset of fatigue.

Rounding out the construction is the most important feature of the jersey, its fit. FRC benefits from Giordana's innovative contoured cut. Essentially, the jersey has been created on a curve in order to clone your body in the cycling position. By doing this, abrasion is minimized, and fabric bunching and pinching is eliminated. To secure this position, Giordana incorporated its AeroLite arm cuffs and a wide elastic jacquard rear waistband. At the cuffs, the new AeroLite design uses a low-profile, seamless cuff that holds strong while maintaining an aerodynamic presence. And for further comfort, the entirety of the jersey have been constructed with four-needle flatlock stitched seams.

For housing your ride essentials, the jersey features three rear cargo pockets and a zippered security pocket, as well.

The Giordana FormaRed Carbon Jersey is available in six sizes from Small to XX-Large and in the colors Black/white, Blue/white, Fluo Yellow/white, Red/white, and White/black.

does not work for me; for others it will

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

love the fluoro green but unless you have a flat chest and abdomen it accentuates any slight bulges and may want a base layer to keep from flashing your nips. had to return it as the medium was too tight for my build at 5'8" 160lbs.

"Base layer to keep from flashing your nips," that's funny.

Perfect for Summer

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This jersey is breathable, comfortable, and lightweight. I ride on smaller country roads often so I chose the Fluo Green. You can definitely see right through even that color, but not a issue here 'cause its hot in South TX.

White is a bit see through

Great jersey, loved the color, fit was good (L for 6", 165lbs) but have sent back as white was too see through, would need to wear an undershirt

Good Summer Jersey

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a fantastic summer jersey. It's very light weight and breathes nicely. Top quality fabrics and styling is great.

My only gripe:

I also purchased a small and will agree with the previous reviewer that it is too long in the back. Additionally, I find that the pockets are just a bit too roomy - if you like to stuff your pockets with bars, gels, spare tubes, etc. you'll find that everything will fit. However, if you generally carry less stuff it tends to move around.

I am usually a big fan of Giordana. When I saw this jersey on sale, I bought one in size small. I am 5'6", 130 pounds. While the jersey does look great, I cannot agree with the other reviews here. This jersey is too long in the back, and the pockets are too loose, causing even light weight items to sag and jiggle around the like crazy. The front material and the sleeves are excellent, but the back material is frankly scratchy. Because high end jerseys like this one use so many different materials and panels, seams can become very annoying if they are not completely flat locked or bonded. I can't believe I have to return a Giordana product, but alas! Unfortunately, I think there are better jerseys at this price point or even for less. Bummer.

Great Jersey

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I've got a number of Castelli jerseys which are very nice and fit me well but this one is a cut above even the best Castellis. Beautiful material, perfect fit, vanishes when you have it on. If you can bring yourself to spend this much you'll find it very special.

Don't size up! That's a meaningless and potentially misleading recommendation ("size up" from what, Izod Polo, Castelli Aero Race, PI P.R.O., etc?). Just follow the size chart for a perfect fit.

I have three.

Love these jerseys, great fabric, great cut. fantastic construction. The white is a little see through, gotta wear a base layer. Breathes very well. Size up.

simply the best

I have several of the FRC jerseys and they,by far, are my favorite. The compression of jersey instantly makes you feel good when you put it on and it really does help to prolong muscular activity. It has just the right cut and the rear pockets are plenty deep to stuff food, arm warmers, etc in. They do tend to run a size small so I would suggest sizing up on this one. Do yourself a huge favor and pull the trigger on this jersey. You will be buying more,I assure you.

simply the best

Awesome Jersey

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

I love Giordana. This jersey has a better feel than Forma of the past and looks sharp.

I purchased the Forma Red Carbon jersey (Green) 3 months ago. Size Large. I am 40-41 inches chest, 175 lbs., 32 waist, 5 ' 11". The jersey fit snug at the start of my 3,000 mile cross country road bike ride from Washington State to New York State. 21 days on the bike, so fairly long days. I hand washed the jersey every evening and even wrung it out daily. It was very comfortable, fit perfectly, with up to 4 energy bars, cleat covers, arm warmers in the pockets and my think wallet in the zippered pocket (which is sized to fit a passport perfectly) It is a fabulous jersey, breathes, yet wind resistent enough on the front on chilly mornings, and fits snug on me. So, after many washings and lots of time outdoors, the shoulder panels, which were black, are now a bit faded. The jersey is also a tad more roomy as I lost 10 pounds on the trip, mostly arms and waist, but the jersey continues to be comfortable and functional. The green colour was visible by vehicles, as I rode along Hwy 2 across the US to Duluth. Visibility was even more important on smaller roads, which the jersey provided. Nothing but good to say about it. marten
