Description

Because you're worth it.

Perhaps you want the best quality for your bum, but prefer to not remove your jersey every time you need a natural break on a ride. If that's a familiar scenario, then you'll be super happy with these Giordana FormaRed Carbon Women's Shorts. You can have all the style and quality without the assault on your modesty or the hassle of potentially dumping out your pockets when you make a mid-ride pit stop.

The snug ergonomic fit is a result of the Giordana Women's Contour Fit system and their specific panel shaping. But just like the men's versions, these shorts use HC-44 high compression fabric to facilitate the precise fit as well as aid in your performance while giving you maximum comfort. The tight weave and compression makes you feel like your muscles are being gently held-in place as you ride over rough roads. The HC-44 is backed with carbon-infused Ametista fabric along the waist and cuffs to hold the shorts in place without the use of irritating elastic or silicone grippers. Antigua fabric is the internal, red semi-perforated material that creates small pockets of air next to the ...all the style and quality of bibs, with the convenience of shorts... skin, allowing it to breathe. The resulting silhouette is sleeker and more aerodynamic on the bike.

Giordana uses a four-needle flat stitch for all the seams which makes them discrete and durable. Reflective elements have been added to make you more visible and consequently safer on the roads in the early morning or late evening.

The ALTA O.F. represents the highest level of technology available in women's specific chamois. Giordana has translated its Women's Contour Fit process to develop a pad that provides the appropriate protection for lady cyclists. The modified and streamlined silhouette of the pad is narrower which contours better to the female form on the bike. As a result, the ALTA is considerably less bulky, yet retains the protective qualities that will keep you comfy even over the course of three to four hour rides. The insert is elastic and conforms to the body in motion, but returns every time to its original shape after activity.

The Giordana FormaRed Carbon Women's Shorts are available in Black/black, Black/pink, Black/white. They come in five sizes from X-Small through X-Large. In support of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Giordana will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each pair of shorts with pink accents to help the fight against cancer.

  • Aerofix waistband, which consists of Ametista backed with stretchy, breathable Antigua fabric, holds the shorts in place without pressure points or digging
  • Wide Aerofix cuffs offer extra support as well as prevent the short from riding up
  • Low-profile Alta OmniForm chamois, Giordana?s top-of-the-line insert, provides low-bulk comfort, protection and support
  • Portion of the sales of the black/pink colorway with pink reflective elements will go to support the National Breast Cancer Foundation
  • Body Clone fit runs small, so size accordingly

Fit is not the same as the W/B Carbon

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I first bought the white/black Giordana FormaRed Carbon shorts, and was literally blown away by the fit and comfort. I absolutely love them. I bought a second pair, same style, just all in black. I found the fit at the waist and legs very different than the white/black ones, as well as the chamois is different. I do not understand this, as the spec should be the same for the sizing, just the fabric color varies.
To elaborate, the fit on the legs seemed tighter than the white/black ones, and the waist was slightly smaller, nothing to really complain about there for me, just stating the differences.
I prefer the white/black fit as they were just absolutely a perfect fit, just wish the fit was the exact same on both shorts.

Waistband too small, last year's chamois

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

The thing about the size is the waistband runs small BUT NOT THE REST OF THE SHORTS. So if you size up, the waist band gets more comfy, but then the rest of the shorts gets too big. Huge disappointment because I figured in hot weather I'd like not have the extra layer of fabric from the bibs covering my sweaty back when with sports bra and jersey makes three layers in 80 and 90 degree weather. Plus this is not the 2014 shorts bec those should have the cirro chamois, at least per what I read elsewhere. These have the alta chamois. I may have to stick with the bibs. I am starting to wonder too if the shorts are just a wee bit short on the legs. I'm 5'4 and wear the xs and I just feel like I wear my shorts considerably shorter than the guys do, but maybe we ladies are just supposed to show more skin??

The Bomb

My most favorite shorts ever!!! Not too bulky on the chamois, not too long in the leg!!!!

great shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

initially bought the Laser shorts and LOVED them. when I returned to the website to purchase a second pair, my size was sold out ! As my first Giordana shorts, I was very impressed with the quality of the material, and the chamois. So I ended up buying the FormaRed, and found them to be EVEN better: the compression, the feel, the breathability, and the chamois. They run a touch snugger than the FormaRed- but I kept the same size and they work well for me. Also, I have not found the leg grippers to be an issue.

Responded on

I agree, I've had no problems with these, at all, either! If you can find them...try the F.R.C. tights, too! B.C. offered them last year...hopefully they'll have them this year, too. I have a pic of them, next to the F.R.C. jacket on jacket page (the F.R.C. jacket page).
Also, Giordana actually does offer a 2X, and even a 3X size for men and women!

Ride-On!

Giordana does not disappoint.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

I bought my first Giordana FormaRed's about 2 months ago (the breast cancer design). They were my first, having typically worn Capo's in the past. I love my Capo's but I am a convert to the FormaRed's. Both have the low profile chamois that really does the job on long rides. But what I really like about the FormaRed's is that they are unmistakably cooler and that is a real plus in the Dallas summers. I agree with the reviews that they run small but I did not have the leg problems other reviewers identified. I am a short cyclist (5'2) and I like the length of these shorts. I bought the all black and am considering getting the black and white too.

Responded on

You will love the F.R.C. jerseys, too! Also the same line in the jacket & tights, when available, and size-up.
Just remember, the white (and there appears to be a lot of it, more so than the blk/wht laser shorts I have) will be sort of see-thru...and if you get caught in the rain....!

WOW

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

My biggest complaint about this product is that I only bought one pair when it was on sale! These shorts do everything they claim. I used it on a 60 mile bike ride and to my surprise I had no saddle issues as I normally have with my other cycling shorts. They do however run a little small so I had to go up one size based on the sizing chart but they are a great fit!!!!

Responded on

Right!!!
But your, and my biggest complaint is not about the product, but about procrastinating and not buying another pair (in my size/color choice) earlier! Rats

Get the F.R.C. Jacket, if you can, you'll love it!...they were just on sale, too...SIZE-UP always in the F.R.C. line.

2nd to the Lasers

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

I bought both these and the Giordana Laser shorts at the same time. I currently own a pair of Lasers and I knew I already loved them. I figured I would try the next step up while they were on sale. One of my pet peaves in cycling shorts is the legs riding up which causes the chamois to move. These FormaReds don't have the leg grippers to help hold them down. I always thought of myself as having hefty thights, but evidently not as hefty (or muscular, I should say) as the elite cyclists who are more deserving of these shorts. The red perforated Aerofix fabric on the leg cuffs will not be enough to keep the legs from riding up. They are also too large around the leg cuffs. The Lasers fit perfectly around the leg cuffs and have a little bit of silicone dots to hold them down.

Regarding sizing, the FormaReds run slightly smaller than the Lasers everywhere except the leg cuffs. But I believe the material is meant to be slightly compressive.

I also really liked the material, it seems like it would wick moisture effortlessly.

The quality and workmanship are amazing. The slightly higher waistline holds me in and doesn't allow the shorts to roll under my belly. The chamois on both shorts is the same, and exceptional, I might add. Not too bulky, not too skimpy. They really thought of what a woman needs and incorporated that into the entire fit of the shorts.

Great Shorts for a Good Cause

  • Gender: Female
  • Fit: Runs small

As per usual, perfect fit, top performance material with great attention to detail, timeless and flattering style. Fit is similar to the lasers, but only better. Compression is good (somewhat mild); holds you in all the right places, but no so-called "sausage leg". 7.5" inseam.

The chamois is beautify contoured, not bulky in the least. We don't want to wear a diaper in our pants, like many other brands feel like...and Giordana understands that!
*This short was awarded by Bicycling mag. (2009) Editor's Choice "Best High-end Short".

I recommend them to all who want the best performance their money can buy (Assos, too!).
