Your cycling jacket for winter weather

The Giordana FormaRed Carbon Women's Jacket is a superb example of equity between the sexes, and includes all the points of technology exhibited in the Men's version of the same jacket. It's been designed to keep you blissfully warm in temperatures well below freezing, without the bulk of traditional winter-weight materials. The jacket uses Giordana's anatomic Women's Contour Fit to flatter the female form. But aside from that, you won't be able to tell the difference between your version and your significant other's as they hang side by side in the closet.

What makes this jacket such a marvel is how warm and lightweight it feels. Since it's made from the same HD44 material that the FormaRed Zero Jacket is produced from, it has the same three active layers to keep you warm. The protective outer shell is made with the 44 thread per square centimeter count that makes for a smooth, aerodynamic surface. The jacket not only features a super-compact weave that wicks moisture to the outside of the garment, but its also been DWR treated to repel anything but the harshest deluge. The middle-layer of the shell is made from an ultra-fine and elastic WindTex membrane that blocks icy blasts and allows excess vapors to escape from within. While the innermost layer is made from the even lighter-weight HD22, and has both an antibacterial and a rapid wicking treatment to ward off odors and to quickly move moisture away from the body.

Accent panels of the wind and water-resistant Condor material is gathered and crimped to allow expansion in key places during exercise. The FormaRed Carbon also features a reversed CamLock full-front zipper, that's reflective on the outside and protected by an inner flap of Aerofix AV over the neck to prevent snags. The FR-Zero zipper allows for easy ventilation adjustments in the saddle. The zipper locks when the pull is in the down position, and by flipping the pull up, the zipper can be opened easily with one hand. The locking mechanism also prevents the zipper from inadvertently coming open at the neck, exposing you to the elements.

The Aerofix AV flap has an internal wind-blocking membrane; so the flap blocks any air that might seep past the zipper teeth. Further sealing out the elements is a fully-lined extended collar at the back of the neck with jacquard elastic at the hem. Doubled Super Roubaix cuffs will keep your arms snugly warm and secured against any cold blast of air. The jacket also has three rear pockets that're lined with the breathable fleece Roubaix, with a fourth zippered compartment securely holding your most important items. For added visibility, reflective piping has been placed on the front and back of the jacket.

The Giordana FormaRed Carbon Women's Jacket is available in the colors White and Black and in five sizes from X-Small to X-Large.

Nice jacket, but...

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

not sure it's really worth the $$. the good: fits tight as advertised - no loose/baggy wind flapping material. It appears to be very well made. But, I have found that it does not keep me nearly as warm as the less expensive Sugoi Firewall 260. If you need a cool weather jacket, save a few $$.
