Rule your run.

The Garmin Forerunner 220 is a GPS watch designed to accompany training sessions, runs around the neighborhood, and long-distance races alike. The GPS and internal accelerometer work in conjunction to capture pace and distance—regardless of your indoor or outdoor running preference. It also works in conjunction with Garmin heart rate monitors (not included) to measure heart rate and calories burned for a maximum running efficiency. Compatible Garmin Connect software (free download online) uploads all activity data, shares social updates, and also provides free workout plans.

Customizable alerts can be set with an audible or vibration alarm for heart rate, pace, or run/walk intervals; this guidance helps you stay within your desired range when exercising and training. Additionally, the 220 remembers important personal accomplishments, such as fastest mile, 5k, 10k, marathon, or longest distance run. After your run is finished, upload data with the included USB charging/data cradle to compatible Garmin Connect software. A post-run summary appears with run stats for training and analysis. Data can also be wirelessly shared with a compatible Apple or Android device using the Garmin Connect Mobile application (free via Apple App store).

Love it!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love that this watch is simple on the trail, but complex after the run. During my run I program the watch to keep the basic information, and when i get home and sign into my account i'm able to get detailed information about my run. I love that the choice is mine, I can see what I want to know about the run, or ride.

Easy to use & a great training buddy

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My husband was the first to start running with this watch and after weeks of me asking him about our mileage and pace when out for a run together I finally gave in and ordered my very own Forerunner. This GPS watch is extremely easy to use right out of the box, it has a user friendly interface that lets you easily navigate to the different settings (history, settings, time, etc.) and also sync your activities to the phone app via Bluetooth. I am not a fast runner by any means, but this watch has helped me pick up the pace a bit and push myself on hills (of which there are many in Utah). The display is easy to read - I keep it on the display with miles, time, and pace so that I can quickly look down and check in on all my stats without tripping on anything or having to futz with buttons to see the different information - it is all right there on the main display. The watch is low profile so it doesn't feel bulky on my small lady wrists.
Lastly, I love that this watch allows you to choose whether you want sound, vibration, or both at each mile marker (my husband likes to have the sound on as a little celebration for each mile he runs - whereas I prefer the sound off with just the vibration to let me know as I complete each mile).

Excellent for Indoor/Outdoor Needs

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

After only limited experience with this particular watch I ended up recommending this model for my folks to buy my sister as a Christmas present. She and my brother-in-law share it for both outdoor running, and when they are training on the treadmill indoor at their gym.

I actually just used this watch for a 1/2 marathon and the information was well within acceptable margins of accuracy. There were heavy storm clouds (including a lot of rain and hail) during the run and I never had any satellite troubles.
