Make getting lost a thing of the past.

Unless compatibility with a heart rate monitor is an absolute must for you, Garmin's new Edge Touring will be sufficient for all of your navigational needs. With it, you're able to view 17 hours worth of turn-by-turn, bike-specific directions to almost any location that you desire.

Essentially, Garmin's Edge Touring operates in the same way as the GPS navigator in your car, only this computer provides you with bicycle-specific routes and options. In other words, you're not going to be finding yourself in the middle of a five-lane highway with the Edge Touring. Instead, Garmin has preloaded bike-specific maps into the microSD card of the Edge Touring. Here's how it works. Simply search for a place of interest and the Edge Touring will display turn-by-turn cycling routes to your destination and back to the destination of your choosing. Even better, Garmin has refined the route possibilities by enabling you to search by the kind of riding that you intend on doing. By this, we mean that there are road cycling, tour cycling, and mountain bike route modes, which will display either roads, trails, or bike paths in order to get you to your destination.

Garmin has even made it possible to tell the device how far you want to travel, and with its round trip routing, the Edge Touring will give you three ride options to bring you back to Point A. Accordingly, the ability to plan rest stops and site seeing has been simplified. And in case you're looking for a little travel inspiration, Garmin has ensured that you're able to peruse rides and routes that others have completed via your Garmin Connect or Garmin Adventures account online. And after you find a route that you want to try, you're able to download it to your Edge Touring CPU for your next ride. Additionally, you're also able to customize existing routes, or create new ones, before you download them to your device. Of course, both of these programs allow you to relive and share your ride with all of your friends, family, or fellow Garmin riders.

And when you're en route, Garmin has provided you with access to what it calls POIs, or points of interest. These include lists and directions to everything from lodging, to shopping, to restaurants along the way of your route. Even better, all of these POIs are specific to cyclists.

The body of the Edge Touring has been designed for rugged use, which of course, means that it's waterproof. Further along these lines, the simple-to-use touch screen interface has been designed for use with gloves, making it fully-functional in both cold and wet weather. Additionally, with a display size of 1.4 x 2.2-inches, and with a display resolution of 160 x 240 pixels, the screen is easy to see through multiple lighting conditions.

This device features a barometric altimeter, and it's also compatible with ANT+ devices. However, it's important to note that the Edge Touring is not compatible with powermeters. Lastly, the Edge Touring is operates from a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery that will run for around 17 hours per charge.

The Garmin Edge Touring is available in one color and it weighs around 3.5 ounces. Included in the box is the Edge Touring unit, a quarter-turn bike mount, one USB cable, a Garmin cycling map on microSD, and a quick-start manual.
