Description

Technology meets protection.

As trails get faster and bikes get more capable, it only makes sense that protective gear needs to  evolve at even rate. That's where the G-Form Elbow Pads enter the picture. When you put them on, they feel like summer-weight arm warmers. However, the rate-dependent pads stiffen under impact. So, you get the protection that you need, without having to resort to hockey pads in the process.

G Form's pads start with a close-fitting sleeve to which its pads are attached. The upshot to this construction method is that the sleeves are breathable and highly flexible -- much more so than traditional pad constructions. But, it's the PORON® XRD™ impact panels that really set these apart. Essentially, this is a rate-dependent material, which is a fancy way of saying that it stiffens under impact. Basically, when you're wearing them, it feels like a regular arm sleeve, because the articulated impact pads move so effortlessly with your arm. Additionally, the pad remains soft in that case, enhancing your freedom of movement. But, if you take a tumble onto the pad, the impact causes the pad to stiffen. This way, it effectively dissipates the majority of impact energy before it's absorbed by your body.

These pads provide effective protection against scrapes and bruises, but for applications that require maximum protection, such as freeride or downhill, these aren't as protective as a true hard-shell pad. However, the blend of barely-there comfort and protection makes these pads ideal for trail riding.

The G-Form Elbow Pads are available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large and in the colors Black and Yellow.

Excellent Product

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Better to be safe than sorry, this product helps protect you. These sleeves are comfortable, barely notice them. They provide a little bit of warmth for your arms on a chillier day, yet aren't too hot on a warmer day.

I wear them every ride now, but haven't fallen on them to really test them out. They have protected well against tree scrapes thus far. I think they are perfect for backcountry biking, maybe not for purely downhill.

I'm 5'9" and 165 lbs, with stocky arms and the large fit really well, not loose and yet not too tight.

Light Duty Trail Protection

Have been using these pads most recently in Moab and have been very impressed so far.
I am a particular fan of how small these pack down to keep in your pack for the descent down, they provide arm warmer type warmth on the colder rides and certainly do not take away from mobility in the arms or elbows.

I must say that I have not crashed hard on these pads and don't feel that they will hold the test of time if you will be on your elbows or in the rocks much.

They are a go-to pad for that piece of mind protection 'just in case' but feel a harder shell pad would be a better option for someone looking to spend a good amount of time shredding the local bike park.

I am 5' 11" 175lbs and the med fit perfect for me.

G-formed opinion

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Tonight was first ride after having Bursa removed from left elbow. Surgery unrelated to MTB. During the down time I researched pads as I'm an intermediate rider and ride with an expert and another intermediate rider. We have hit some higher speeds going down hill so researched and pads seem appropriate. I bought the G force knee and Elbow pads. It was super hot here in Cali and we were doing a simpler trail with a lot of switch backs. I threw the elbow pads on the protect the elbow with surgery and not the knee as the heat was mid 90s. I had a low speed slide out on gravel into some brush. Hit the left elbow.... Not a scratch bruise or sign of crash. My knee has a little road rash but would have had none if pads were on. I felt nothing on the elbow. Pads were as advertised. Obviously these are not for intense FR or DH riding. Oooooo also if you sized properly don't even know they are there and do not slip from ride or slide. Great product for my riding.

G-Form: gear review
By Soren McCarty

Have you ever wanted to learn that new trick in the Terrain Park or on the BMX Track, but were afraid you were going to bust yourself? Are you the kind of person that has dropped your phone or media player? Well I found a cool new product that will amaze you. It?s called G-Form; G-Form is a company that makes soft foam that stiffens upon impact. They have figured out how to use this technology in athletic pads and protective cases for electronics.
The Cool thing about G-Form products are they are soft and do not restrict movement or motion. They are designed to fit easily under clothing. Perfect for leaning new tricks on the snowboard, bike, skis, skateboard or great if you want a little extra protecting. The best part is they harden on impact, cushioning the blow to the athlete. I wish I had these when I was growing up. Because of the sleek fit, people won?t even notice that you are wearing protective pads you?ll probably even forget yourself.
G-Form makes Elbow pads, Knee Pads, Shin Pads, Crash Shorts and a Compression Shirt. Well worth the money and surprisingly comfortable, perfect for any active lifestyle.
