FSA K-Wing Compact Handlebar $0.00
A compact bar that's big on comfort.
Despite what the traditionalists might say, there are many among us who appreciate sound comfort principles being incorporated into handlebar design. And while the FSA K-Wing Compact Handlebar is designed to maximize your comfort, you'll find it's free of the whimsical kinks that make so many ergo-bars aesthetically offensive. Instead, you'll find clean lines, internal cable routing, and a construction that works in conjunction with your body in order to keep you comfortable for long hours in the saddle.
FSA focused on the rider's comfort when designing the K-Wing handlebar, and the flattened Aero-Ergo profile of the tops is a testament to this. Not only does the profile of the top spread your weight over more of your hands to relieve pressure, but they're also angled down ever-so-slightly. The idea is that angling the tops down mimics the natural position that your wrists assume when you grab the tops of the handlebar. So, you're able to adopt a more natural position whether you're climbing, or just giving your back a rest from the hoods. The moderate 125mm drop of the hooks and 80mm reach put these handlebars in the realm of short/shallow, as the compact designation would suggest. And the hooks are angled by two degrees in order to mimic the natural position of your wrists when you're in the drops. It's a subtle difference from parallel hooks, but one that becomes apparent the longer that your ride goes on.
The ergonomic principles of the K-Wing handlebar aren't the only feature that FSA obsessed over. There's a textured clear coat at the stem clamp and brake lever mounts. This high-friction coating ensures a slip-free interface, even on rough roads. The internal cable routing yields clean lines, and the cable channels are slightly larger than you'll find on some other bars. This enables trouble-free cable routing, even with the latest generation of electronic drivetrains. And while the carbon fiber/Kevlar construction ensures a comfortable ride and plenty of longevity, it's the 3k carbon weave on the outer-layer that makes these handlebars so eye-catching.
The FSA K-Wing Compact Handlebar is available in the sizes 40, 42, and 44cm and in the color Carbon with Red/white decals. Please note that this handlebar is only compatible with 31.8mm clamp diameter stems.
What community has to say
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I lucked into this bar when I bought a used bike on craigslist. The bike is just a mid-range Specialized, but the guy had upgraded to this bar, and sold it to me on the bike. I'm glad he did. It's a wicked bar.
First, it's incredibly light. I don't have a lot of experience with carbon bars, but compared to the aluminum ones I use and have used in the past, it's ridiculous.
Second, stiffness is fantastic as well. There's no flex in this bar that I can perceive, even in a hard sprint, compared to the small flex I'm used to getting with Al bars.
Finally, ergonomics. This is where this bar is king for me. I LOVE the ergo/aero shape of the flats, and especially the sides where the hoods go, it's so comfortable to ride for hours. I tend to get sore hands, or restless hands, and have to move them around a lot, and this bar is way better than any round bar or even other ergo bars I've used. I don't spend much time in the drops, I just don't like them in general, but if I did, I feel like these ones are pretty low. I would prefer that they didn't drop so low, I might use them more if they didn't. Internal cable routing is nice, although I've never had to work on this particular bar, so I don't know how it compares to other internal routing.
The price might be prohibitive, but it's a great bar. I wouldn't pay 330 for it, but on sale, if you want a carbon ergo bar, this one is great.
