BMC TEAM ELITE TE01

Even though the cross-country world championships have finally been cracked on a full-suspension bike, most racers still ride hardtails. Why? It's because they want the ultimate in lightness, and quite frankly, there's no better or more efficient power transfer than what you'll feel on a hardtail. So whether you're racing or just enjoying fast rides in the woods, the BMC Team Elite TE01 deserves a call-up. It's made with carbon fiber in the same way as their top-shelf road frames, and similarly, every ounce of energy you put into the pedals will result in pure acceleration.

The trademark BMC Integrated Skeleton Concept seat cluster not only helps align forces with the axis of the top tube, making the Team Elite frame stronger, it creates a tighter rear triangle for torsional stiffness -- remember that instant acceleration we mentioned? And like their Team Machine road bike, the Team Elite is built with uni-directional carbon fiber. It's used because BMC engineers can orient each and every piece to combat specified deflection of the frame tubes based on their extensive FEA computer analysis of the stresses the bike will undergo on the trail.

There are exceptions to every rule however, and the Team Elite does use some woven carbon fiber in the seat and chainstays. This is all part of their Tuned Compliance Concept, where these areas of the frame have been built specifically to allow a small degree of flex in the vertical plane. This makes your ride a bit more comfortable, and the bias-cut woven fabric ensures torsional stiffness. The TCC technology continues with the included two-bolt Team Elite seatpost. It's also designed to flex in a designated zone to take the edge off the harsh bumps. As we all know, every little bit helps on rough trails, and a more comfortable ride equals a faster finish.

With stiffness and precision in mind, BMC also chose to use a fully integrated headset and a post mount for the rear disc brake caliper. While this may not seem like much, the elimination of press-in cups and bolt-on adapters reduces any chance for slipping and creaking. And where does creaking come from? Flexing component interfaces. Besides all that, the Team Elite shaves off a few more precious grams with these designs.

The BMC Team Elite TE01 is Naked Carbon and comes in four sizes from X-Small to Large. It includes the Team Elite TCC seatpost and an integrated 1-1/8" headset. It requires a high clamp, bottom pull 34.9mm clamp-on front derailleur and uses an English-threaded bottom bracket. The Team Elite TE01 comes with a Conditional 5 year manufacturer's warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.
