SANTA CRUZ HECKLER D AM COMPLETE BIKE

The Santa Cruz Heckler D AM Complete Bike looks like a brawnier, longer-travel version of the Superlight. It is, with its 150mm of rear suspension travel, but it has a few more differences as well. It has a geometry that's better suited for bigger hits, gnarlier terrain and faster downhill riding. The ability to take a 2.5" tire and a 203mm brake rotor make the Heckler a versatile machine. While it can be built up as a cross-country or freeride bike, the Santa Cruz Heckler might be best realized as an all-mountain bike. As such, it will be ready for any trail, no matter the conditions. With this in mind, Santa Cruz includes a water bottle mount under the down tube.

The Heckler frame is crafted from shaped 6069 aluminum tubing. The main triangle uses round tubing, but the swingarm tubes have more of a squared shape. Round allows for great all-around stiffness, while the squared shapes allow for better tire and drivetrain clearance. A Fox Float R rear shock handles the rear suspension duties while a Rock Shox Sektor Rsa 150mm fork tames the bumps on the front end.

We're usually of the mind that selecting each component one at a time is the best way to build a bike. However, an ala carte parts spec usually costs a bit more than a pre-configured complete bike. So, with simplicity and value in mind, we're offering this complete Heckler. As always, Santa Cruz does a clever job picking the parts for the kit.

The D AM build kit consists of a Shimano drivetrain with the duties split between Deore for the crank, cassette, and shifters, and SLX for both derailleurs. The Race Face Ride XC handlebar, stem, and seatpost are all sensible alloy bits and are a nice foundation for the Lizard Skin Charger grips and WTB Pure V Comp saddle. WTB FX rims are laced to Shimano M525 hubs with 14 gauge DT spokes for a durable wheelset. Aggressive Maxxis High Roller 2.35 tires round out the wheel package offering serious traction, and Avid Juicy 3 brakes bring it all to a stop.

The Santa Cruz Heckler D AM Complete Bike is powder coated in your choice of Black or Lime Green. Perhaps one of its finest details is the integrated bottle-opener on the replaceable derailleur hanger. It's nice to know that Santa Cruz pays attention to the little things now, isn't it? The Heckler frame has a two year warranty against manufacturing defects, while the bearings are guaranteed for life.
