PINARELLO XTRACK MADISON

What the Pinarello Prince Carbon is to road, the XTrack Madison is to the velodrome. Just as Team Caisse d'Epargne has won countless one-day races and stage race titles on their Prince Carbon, Pinarello designed the XTrack as an ideal all-purpose bike for their sponsored national teams (which include Spain, Ukraine, Argentina, and Colombia) as they face the challenge of the UCI World Cup and the all-important Olympic Games

Pinarello unveiled the XTrack to huge success, highlighted by 7 medals at the '06 Track World Championships in Bordeaux, including a sweep of the Madison event. A quick glance at the frame makes it evident that the XTrack is fine-tuned for any mass-start track race, as well as timed sprint events. It has masculine, oversized carbon tubing visually reminiscent of the Paris Carbon with two exceptions: The top tube is rounded throughout its length, instead of the scalloping you find on the Paris Carbon. Secondly, the seat tube has an S-bend to it to allow for shorter chainstays, thereby giving you a shorter wheelbase and quick handling.

The XTrack is built from the same 46HM3K carbon fiber as the Paris Carbon -- a premium-quality carbon that can withstand a pulling force of 46 tons per square mm. This "elongation factor" means that Pinarello can build a frameset stiff enough for a world-class sprinter, but keep the weight well below 3lbs. The physics here is simple: If you take two bikes of equal stiffness and aerodynamics, hard accelerations are faster on the lighter of the two.

The 3K finish on the XTrack means that each visible square of material contains 3 carbon "strands". The analogy between carbon fiber and expensive dress shirts is useful here -- the more tightly you weave a fabric, the higher its quality. According to Pinarello the tighter weave goes beyond aesthetic concerns. A more tightly woven carbon provides superior strength -- again, allowing the builder to use less material -- one more reason why the XTrack is so strong and stiff, yet weighs so little.

The XTrack Madison is available in 5 sizes between 46cm-58cm. It comes in a beautifully detailed Italia Blue paint scheme. It comes standard with the Pinarello Carbon XTrack fork, a Pinarello integrated cartridge bearing headset, plus a Pinarello MOst Tail 31.6mm carbon seatpost. It requires an Italian bottom bracket.
