Description

You can’t always be pinning singletrack.

FOX Racing made the Women’s Townie Bike Short for mountain bikers who want something to wear when they’re riding to the store or going on an urban assault. You get an integrated chamois to keep your backside from getting bruised (unless you wreck trying to drop a stair set) without standard overkill bike-short style. Maybe you could wear these FOX Racing shorts on the trail if you wanted to.

Love em

Great Mtn Bike short! Colors are great too! I have them in both. They fit perfect but like some of the reviews the pockets do "open" a bit which is a bit odd. I think they are true to size I am 5'6 120 lbs and always wear small and the small fits perfect! Would have given them 5 stars but the pocket thing..........

digging my shorts!

besides being so cute these shorts are really quite comfortable. i don't think the pockets are awkward like other reviewers have mentioned. it was nice to go for a long ride and then not look like a dork in spandex when i stopped for a bite to eat at a fairly nice restaurant. a win win!

Cute, but oddly sized

Love the look of these shorts (which in the interest of transparency I scored on Chainlove), but on my first ride I neglected a belt, and as they're built for women who don't have muscular legs, I sized up, and as a result had to deal with a LOT of extra space around the waist (though the legs fit fine) which led to the saggy short syndrome.

The fabric stretches nicely, and overall the shorts have a nice urban look. I'm just bummed that Fox couldn't make a pair of shorts designed for those women who actually mountain bike and might have legs disproportionately larger than say the average Jill.

Responded on

I completely agree. I got on here to write my own comment; but I had exactly the same experience as Lucy Crabapple. While I often sport a gap at the waist while the hips of shorts fit me snugly, in the Fox Townie there was a gap at the waist, and the shorts were too uncomfortably tight all down the upper leg. For reference, I have a 27 waist, 38.5 hip, thick legs, and ordered a medium, which is my usual size in pearl izumi, voler, and other athletic bottoms. A large in this short would have been better, not baggy, just even more gappy at the waist, but fixable with a belt. They are super cute shorts!

Get Shorty

I have 2 pairs of these and it looks like the new spring colors are reason enough to buy a third pair! Great value with the removable chamois (tech specs says they are integrated but look closely at the pic- they are removable). The chamois padding is thick enough- I use these for full-day MTB here in Colorado. I've never had an issue with breathability even in 90 degree heat ("but it's a DRY heat").

The pocket design is perfect for my use. They open up a bit when riding to keep thy nether region nice and cool. A Gu packet fits nicely in the right side "coin" pocket. And the upper left coin pocket has a slot for my ear buds.

The size chart is spot-on. For a baggier look, size up.

I think they are a bit expensive to be billed as a townie short but the value is there with the included removable chamois to be used as a trail short. I'd like to see this design used with a two-way stretch fabric. The cut of these shorts is great and very flattering.

Just say no to spandex!

Very cute, but poorly designed pockets

I loved the look of these shorts! Very cute, and comfortable when you put them on. I liked that the chamois was removable, and a bit thicker that other shorts like this.

However, the pockets annoyed the crap out of me. The inner pocket material is mesh, which I thought would be great for ventilation. As soon as you sit down or get up on the bike though, the pockets kind of split open, and the lining shows/falls out. Also, the small "coin" pocket on these contains a chamois to wipe your sunglasses. Great idea, just poor execution. The wipe is way too big for the pocket - it barely fits, and it and just makes the pocket bulge out more.

I took one short ride in these, it was a hot day and I was a bit sweaty. The shorts did not dry out at all! Even after I took the chamois off, and just had the shorts back on.

As far as fit goes, they were true to size. I am a size 6 in most jeans, and the Medium was right for me.
