True Trail.

With the radical redesign FOX Racing Shox threw at its new Fit4 damper, we're happy to report that 2016 sees a return of the TALAS air shock with the 34 TALAS 27.5 150 3Pos-Adj Fit4 Fork. It still features the same TALAS (Travel Adjust Linear Air Spring) switch, which lets you adjust the amount of travel in the air spring to slam the front-end on climbs and slack-out for plush tracking on terrain and enduro descents. The ability to add or subtract a full inch of travel on the fly makes for a fork truly deserving of the "trail" distinction.

The fork's other half is where the major changes are happening, though, and it starts with the damper shaft beefing-up to 10mm for increased oil flow to the base valve. The new 3-position Fit4 system also replaces Climb, Trail, Descend (CTD), changing the settings to Firm, Medium, and Open. While this change may read like an exercise in semantics, it entails a radical realignment of the 34 TALAS's capabilities to make sure the fork rides high for quick, controlled recovery during everything from big, square hits to successive, small impacts.

The most welcome change is that Fit4 migrates the adjustable sub settings from CTD's median Trail mode to the new Open setting. Open encompasses the range once divided between Descend and Trail in order to take full advantage of the fork's tendency to ride high, combining better small-bump compliance with more confident tracking across successive impacts and rough terrain. The Medium setting is much firmer now, handling duties ranging from rooty trails to climbing, and the Firm setting is now largely relegated to fast hardpack and fire road transitions.
