Fast traveler.

If your local trail system is anything like our Northern Utah locales, then you're no doubt seeing a lot of six-inch-plus bikes on terrain where they aren't necessarily, well, necessary. Given the nature of suspension, these enduro monsters also typically have a fork with at least an inch more travel, but we find that the five inches of FOX Racing Shox's 34 Float 27.5 130 CTD FIT Fork are more than ample for handling everything from ski resort runs to techy singletrack. The extra travel of those bottomless, borderline DH bikes only serves to make us travel more slowly.

Returning devotees will be pleased to notice the changes made to FOX's Climb, Trail, Descend (CTD) damper. The Trail setting now has seven sub-settings, as opposed to the previous three, so there are virtually no terrain coverage gaps in the fork's median settings. Climb and descend remain unchanged, focusing on speed going up and plush compression coming down.

Like recent generations of FOX's Factory series forks, the FLOAT controls its stroke with the venerable FOX Isolated Technology (FIT) damper. And, unlike a traditional open bath system, the FIT design partitions the damper fluid in an air-tight bladder. This prevents contamination, which improves the consistency of the damper on long descents.

The 34 FLOAT's stanchions have been redesigned from the inside out to provide a smoother surface for the Kashima coating to adhere to. Since the surface is smoother, the Kashima is smoother, and this smooth-fest is accented with a lower-friction lubricating oil, for reduced friction and better small-bump compliance all around. Kashima is still harder than standard stanchion coatings, so you'll enjoy a longer wear life and more supple suspension action.
