FOX Racing Shox 34 Float 29 140 FIT CTD w/ Trail Adjust Fork - 2014 $0.00
Ride one to your padded cell.
Bolting a 140mm fork to a 29er is enough to quickly transform fast into insane. The Fox 34 Float 29 140 FIT CTD Fork with Trail Adjust is the mountain bike equivalent of a jet pack. The real beauty of the Float 29 140—aside from 6 inches of travel mated to the speed of wagon wheels—is how Fox actually made the fork more adjustable by simplifying the adjustments. At the heart of it is the CTD system—climb, trail, and descend. The overabundance of tuning options has been simplified into one easy-to-use, three-position lever.
Fox forks have traditionally been featured packed, offering the ability to make any adjustments needed to tune the fork for any trail conditions. The only problem was the difficulty for the average rider to make knowledgeable tweaks to the forks. High- and low-speed compression, lockout threshold, preload, and rebound are all common adjustments, but, for the rider who wants to ride, and not relentlessly and aimlessly tune a fork, this can have a negative effect on performance and user experience.
With CTD, one lever quickly and easily switches the fork's compression to ideal settings for the task at hand. The Climb setting adds plenty of low-speed compression to mitigate bobbing when standing on the pedals. Trail mode offers moderate low-speed compression to balance efficiency with optimal trail manners. It's also independently adjustable with three settings; soft, medium, and firm, called Trail Adjust. Finally, the Descend setting features the perfect blend of high- and low-speed compression for plush action on steep and aggressive sections of trail.
The 2014 lowers are now 50 grams lighter than last year's comparable model. While that may not seem significant, keep in mind dropping mass from the lowers effectively reduces un-sprung weight — which affects the amount of inertia the damper needs to control, resulting in enhanced suspension action. To drop the weight, Fox's engineers retained the Float's respected torsional stiffness by redesigning the brace, dropouts, and wall thickness.
The 2014 Fox 32 Float 29 140 CTD FIT Fork comes in Black with the smooth and durable Kashima coating on the stanchion tubes. It comes with a 1.5-inch to 1.125-inch tapered steerer tube and a 15mm thru axle.

- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I love this fork. I mounted it on a Yeti sb95 carbon and kept it at the 140mm setting even though Yeti specs this same fork but at a 120mm on the stock sb95. I haven't noticed any penalty so far in terms of climbing or bob, and the fork makes descents just insanely fun. Whether bombing through a rock garden, or taking a few feet drop, it feels incredible smooth and stable.
In my opinion, the CTD function is just enough to be able to control the fork depending on what terrain you're riding, but not so many controls that you'd rather just ride and not change anything. I usually hover between trail and descend, unless I'm on a long fire road climb, where I'll set it on climb.
