Grams matter.

FOX Racing Shox has been in full-on Renaissance mode for the past few years, hitting first the 36 and then the 34 Float line with the upgrade hammer. This year, it's the 32's turn, and the 32 Float SC 29 100 Remote-Adj FIT4 Fork benefits to the tune of shaving approximately 255g or 15 percent from a similarly spec'd 32 FLOAT Fork. Those dropped grams manifest primarily in the reworked chassis, but FOX's handlebar-mounted, cable-actuated damper toggle switch returns, proving that some things are best left untampered with.

That list doesn't include the fork's uppers or lowers, though. The SC chassis is 10mm narrower than the previous iteration for a ridiculously light fork that maximizes efficiency for XC endurance events. The stepped magnesium lower legs accommodate the fork's narrower chassis by clearing space for the disc brake mount, but it's also hollowed out to further contribute to weight loss. The shorter upper tube also does its part on the weight-loss front, operating along the simple logic that less material equals less weight. Despite these smaller dimensions, the SC chassis still accommodates 2.3in tires for plenty of traction and bump compliance on technical courses where wider rubber is warranted.

The 32 Float also incorporates FOX's latest FIT4 damper, which features three levels of lock-out that can be adjusted from the saddle with the bar-mounted switch. The Firm, Medium, and Open settings are similar to the previous FOX damper model's Climb, Trail, and Descend with one key difference: the sub-setting adjustments have migrated from the Trail setting to the Open setting.

The Float Air spring remains unchanged, so it still offers smooth travel and the option to add spacers in order to tune the ramp-up. Its self-equalizing negative air spring provides a plush, linear feel in the stock configuration of two air volume spacers. Adding more (it handles up to four) increases the fork's progressiveness and reluctance to bottom out on bigger drops and larger trail obstacles. Rounding things out, FOX employs its 15 x 100mm Kabolt thru-axle for increased stiffness and slight weight savings over a comparable quick-release.

  • A lightweight, adjustable 29er cross-country fork
  • 100mm of customizable travel for endurance XC events
  • FOX's Step Cast chassis shaves grams by shedding material
  • FIT4 damper features 22 sub-settings when run Open
  • Float air spring eliminates the negative chamber coil spring
  • Remote damper switch for on-the-fly adjustments
  • Clearance for wagon wheel tires up to 2.3in
