Fox Racing's Ripley Women's Shorts are designed to bring the same level of performance to the lady’s off-road clothing while still maintaining a large degree of comfort and good looks. Based roughly on the Men’s Ranger Short, the Ripley is made from a two-way stretch polyester material. They provide a free-movement feeling, which is so important when pedaling, but will hold its form so that you won’t be dealing with bagged out backsides to get caught on your seat. Nor will you look out of place sitting at a café post-ride. To keep you cushioned while in the saddle, Fox has given the Ripley a detachable liner with its women’s-specific insert. You’ll find this insert effective and yet unobtrusive both on and off the bike. And since it is entirely detachable, you can use it in a variety of shorts and knickers.

Where lady’s shorts often fall short of comfort is the waistband. It needs to be secure enough that we’re not having any ill-advised exposure in the back, but it can’t be severe enough that it cuts uncomfortably into the stomach. That’s where the Ripley interior adjustable waistband really comes into its own. Since it is an interior adjustable band, you won’t have to deal with the scrunched up elastic waistband look, but you will be able to adjust the fit discretely from the inside, ensuring you’ll always feel comfy whether you are flying down a trail or standing in line for your coffee. And to keep a hold of your keys and coffee change, there is a low profile zippered pocket in the mid-back section. It won’t get in the way of any hydration or back pack you might use, but it will make it possible for you to carry along a couple of small essentials directly with you.

Feels Like Nothing's There

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

Love these shorts! The material is so nice and cool it feels like you're not even wearing pants. I happen to like the slim fit, they do ride up a little bit but are not uncomfortable. I originally purchased a size M worried about the legs being too small but the waist was so big they wouldn't stay up so I exchanged for a S and they fit perfectly. I would say they are more of a low rise cut but still have plenty of coverage. Plus the Miami Green color is fab.
Only reasons I don't give them 5 stars are because the liner is just OK (I will probably use my other liners for my next long ride) and there is only one pocket and it happens to be so small you can't even use it for anything besides maybe a single car key?

Skinny MTB Shorts?

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Size Bought: Small

Got these for my girlfriend who says she has a previous fox shorts in smalls and she couldn't get the shorts to fit on her quads. She said the material was awesome and the waist and liner fit great. The tapered leg end holes were too tight and there was not enough give in the material. Not sure if sizing up will fix the issue...

Slim Fit

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Bought these for my girlfriend and she loves them. They are a baggy style short but they fit slim on the legs. She does wish there were more pockets because the back zip pocket is very small. The Chamois that these shorts come with are not very comfortable. She cut it out and uses a different chamois under the shorts.

According to Wife

They are super comfortable allow for long intense biking without the lower part of your body hurting. They don't bunch up and are not super tight.

Not for the "thicker" gals

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

The material for these shorts is great. They have some stretch and seem very durable. The drawback for me is the fit. They are slim fit and come up well below the waist. Essentially, with my thicker legs and fanny (all muscle! lol), the fit is odd and I feel like I'll end up with a plumber's crack while riding. The liner/pad is ok, albeit a little thick for my liking. No chafing for me, though. I wear a size 8/10 pants and the size large just fit me, but will rely on the stretchy material as I ride.

Shorts are good, liner is just OK.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I like the cut and fit of these shorts. They aren't too long or baggy. The Chamois (liner) fits different in both pairs I own and they are a bit tight around the waist. Over all for the price I would recommend them for sure.

Shorts are good, liner is just OK.

Great MTB short, run a little loose

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large

These shorts run slightly loose, and I like that in a mountain bike short for comfort and movement while riding. The fabric has a quick dry and nice hand-feel. Fox makes great gear, and these shorts are no exception.

Don't go by the size chart

  • Size Bought: L

I am 5-6 and 140 lbs, and the size chart indicated size L. They are huge, so large that I don't know if M would even be right. Otherwise, they do seem to have the features I'm looking for. Not too long, not too short, removable liner, not too baggy.

I agree M size is way off according to the size chart. Had to return.
