Versatility matters.

Don't let the Ranger Cargos' mellow, off-trail presence mislead you, as Fox Racing's mountain-bike aptitude is abundant in these ride anything, ride anywhere shorts. From lush northern forests to desert singletrack, the Ranger Cargos' two-way stretch poly shell ensures cool, dry comfort and unlimited range of motion.

Out on the trail, Fox treats you to a six-panel, moisture-wicking, and breathable liner with Pro Form chamois, which provides not only support, but relief from irritation, too. The anatomic liner is detachable, allowing you to pair it with knickers and pants for cooler climates; and best of all, the Rangers turn into a pair of technical shorts for travels between trailheads.

As for storage space, the Ranger Cargos have plenty; this includes two pedal-friendly hand pockets for quick access to electronic devices, one zipped cargo for secure storage, and a flapped cargo for streamlined convenience to nutrition.

Bought Two Pairs

Bought a pair of these and liked them enough that I picked up a second pair so I don't have to do laundry as often. They're comfortable and look great. For the price, love that they come with a well-padded chamois.

    I Love these Shorts!

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit:True to size

These are my go to shirts on and off the trail! Very durable, stylish and lightweight. 12" inseam is not long, or too short, but just right. These are the only mtb shorts I wear...after I bought my first pair and ended up buying three more in other colors. Great shorts that are worth the price, especially when you can pick them up on sale at Backcountry!

    Useful way beyond mtb'ing

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

The Fox Ranger 12" cargo shorts are my new favorite all-purpose mountain shorts.

I bought them for mtb'ing. For that they're great. But I've found they're super for most of my mountain activities.

The fabric is 4-way stretch, abrasion resistant to the point I'll call it durable, and quick to dry in warm, sunny weather. It also has a diamond plate-type pattern that IMO looks cooler than most smooth fabrics used in comparable shorts.

There's a removable liner with integrated padding for the sit bones. I haven't used it; I prefer lighter weight, although it's nice to have the option. Also, the fabric around the padding is like silk-weight Capilene, which breathes well and isn't overly constrictive.

Since these shorts were designed with mtb'ing in mind, the cargo pockets are easily accessible when in a riding position. I like the zipper pocket on one side and the hook and loop closing pocket on the other side. Again, options are nice to have. Plus there are two regular-depth front pockets off the waist, just like regular shorts.

While there are no belt loops, which I'd probably add in the next version, there are hook and loop tabs on the inside of the waistband about where one's hips are. I'd estimate 3 inches of adjustability in the waist, which makes these shorts versatile. For instance, I'll put 'em on over my cut-off TNF Polartec PowerStretch thermals on chilly days or go commando on those ultra hot days (yeah, TMI, I suppose), and the shorts stay on my hips.

I'm about a 31" waist. I have the 32" size. The waist fit is great, in light of the adjustability. The length hits at the kneecap.

I should've bought two pair, because I don't want to wear my other athletic shorts, except when I'm going running, in which case these are over-built. But, in fairness that's running isn't the intended application, mtb'ing is. Still, I've run miles in 'em, just gotta hike 'em up occasionally.

Score yourself some of the Fox Ranger cargo shorts and I bet you'll be stoked like I am.

Pic is from Ding & Dang Canyon in the Swell. In the pic, I'm also wearing a bunch of other softgoods I bought at Backcountry.com. TNF Reaxion Amp tank top, Ex Officio Give-N-Go boxer ( out of view : p ), Altra Superior 1.5 trail runners. and probably the Rip Curl trucker hat, too. All excellent. Thanks, Backcountry, for keeping me stylin' out there.

    Great shorts!

    • Gender:Male
    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

These shorts are a great trail riding short. Not to baggy but big enough to fit over my pads. Good amount of storage. I like that I can wear them without the line too. I am 6'3" and weigh 240 lbs. I got the size 40 and they fit great.

    Great shorts!

    Looks and crotch protection

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times
    • Fit:True to size

I have been seeking bicycle shorts for my 15 - 30 mile rides. I needed them to have crotch padding as well as after-bike ability to walk around and not draw attention to myself.

I confirmed my choice with my top gearhead Skylar - and I was not disappointed. Thank you Skylar!

    Make Riding More Enjoyable

    • Fit:True to size

I bought a pair of these in Charcoal and liked them so much I just reloaded with another pair in Black so I don't have to worry about doing laundry as often. They're comfortable, fit great, and definitely make riding more enjoyable. Psyched that they come with a quality liner too!

    Great Shorts

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times
    • Fit:True to size

Shorts are a good value with the liner. The fit is true to the sizing and the shorts are comfortable. Even when these are super dirty after you wash them they look brand new.
