Meta protection.

Building on the heritage of Fox Racing's much-loved — and still very relevant — Flux helmet, the Metah Mountain Bike Helmet brings boosted venting and a reduced weight to shepherd you through technical trails. Despite those changes, the helmet's coverage is also increased; the back dips lower, and extended protection zones at the sides protect your sensitive temples.

The Metah's shell includes Fox's Varizorb multi-density impact reduction system, which utilizes a layered pattern of cone-shaped foam in varying densities to maximize impact absorption and protect your brain if you do crash. A rear dial retention system and Y-Strap adjustment under the chin let you dial in a comfortable, secure fit so you can focus on the trail instead of your gear, and ten huge vents provide air flow to keep your noggin cool and collected on even the warmest days.

Great looks, but...

On the outside, this helmet is a bit bulkier than others.
Inside, even though I'm usually size M on helmets, this one feels a bit tight. I'm afraid a size L might feel loose.

    Too much helmet.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

To start, I'm a huge Fox fan and almost all of my MTB gear is by Fox. I own 3 Flux helmets and was looking for a new helmet for 2016.
For whatever reason, I always fall right on the edge of two sizes. In this case it I'm again right on the edge of S/M - L/XL.
For this helmet, I ended up keeping the S/M as it just seems it fit better. For each size (I bought both), the range of adjustability seemed to exceed what is noted in the specs.
The helmet sits low on your head and provides nice coverage all around. The pads are in the right spots (for me) and the chinstrap was one of better ones I've seen.
I used the helmet for about 6 months and while very comfortable, it is huge. The visor is very long and blocks your view unless you tilt your head back. When hammering the pedals, it's can be uncomfortable. I never crashed it, but since the shell is thicker than any helmet I have owned, I assume it will do well when needed. Even while going with the S/M size, the overall size of the helmet is just massive. I felt like my head was an orange on a toothpick.
Ultimately after about 1000 miles the adhesive that hold the Velcro tabs to the shell failed and the liner began to fall out. I ended up returning this helmet and switching brands.
I still like the looks of the helmet off my head and how it feels when wearing it, I just wish it was not so bulbous and that it lasted longer.

    Too much helmet.

I got this helmet for my Son's mountain biking and racing. He said it is one of the most comfortable helmets he has owned. The ventilation is great on those hot days. We got the SM/Med and it fits him quite well.
