Item # FXR01BA

At this price point it's typically one-size-awkwardly-fits-all, or else it's a simple helmet lacking adequate airflow and an effective retention system. Fox Racing, however, has an advantage unlike the competition, the Flux is built with attention to these all-important details.

This means fewer molds and resources tied up in multiple, overlapping designs. Due to this, Fox Racing focuses its collective efforts on making the Flux one of the lightest, best-breathing, and safest helmets in this bracket. In fact, it easily passes the stringent CPSC safety standard, complete with 20 large vents, and it comfortably balances a triple-beam under the 400-gram mark.

Those features contribute to the reason that many riders often have more than one Flux on deck. But there's more to it than that. Fox Racing was one of the first to forgo the industry's tradition of remarketing visor-clad, skinny-tire helmets to mountain bikers. Starting fresh, the original Flux successfully melded additional coverage with plenty of ventilation, leaving ultra-aero, minimalist helmets for gran fondos.

A Detox fit system is quick to adjust, and it comfortably wraps the head. The Flux is constructed from expanded polystyrene foam with an in-mold shell, and Fox Racing provides several finishes to complete any kit.

Lightweight and Durable

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

Love this helmet. Bought this helmet for an early season trip to Moab. It held up really well after some hard falls and kept me head cool in the desert. Riding this summer in Park City it's taken a few more hits and done really well. The sun visor definitely comes in handy.

Will say it seems to run a bit large compared to what the sizing says. I wear a 7 1/4 hat and bought the medium. I have the back of the helmet adjusted as far is it can go and it's still a tad loose.

Fits like a glove

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

So, if you're familiar with him, I'm basically MODOK in terms of head to body ratio. My dome is huge. Here's a shot of MODOK for reference: . On top of having a big noggin, it's also pretty long; like a banana, or an alien from Ridley Scott's classic.

Anyway, finding the right size helmet that stays securely snugged to my big melon is always a challenge. Most helmets, even the XLs, fit too tightly, and they don't adjust well for someone with a bigger, banana shaped head like my own. I'm happy to report that's not the case here with the Fox Racing Flux helmet.

There is plenty of room in this helmet for us cranially-well-endowed individuals, and the back straps make it easy to adjust to ensure it doesn't go flying off when our top-heavy bodies go flying from our bikes. The helmet is comfortable, light, and breathable as well. The wind cuts through nicely and keeps you cool on long climbs, and you don't feel tired from carrying a bunch of different weight on your head.

Overall build quality seems pretty good. This is a mid range helmet in terms of price to me, so I don't expect anything crazy in terms of quality, but the helmet is built well and nothing stands out as an issue on the build.
