Slimy and slithering are usually the first adjectives that come to mind when we think about snakes. But when we think a little harder, we realize that they are actually very versatile creatures, at least in the movement department. Fi'zi:k thinks in a similar fashion and designed a series of saddles specifically for riders who are highly flexible and who like to shift around on the saddle to maximize power output while riding. The Tundra M1 is ideal for riders who slither themselves to the top of the podium.
The Tundra M1 was designed primarily for cross country riders. Racing or riding cross country often requires the ability to move quickly about the saddle and the riders who do this the best are classified as "snakes" by Fi'zi:k. What this means in terms of saddle design? Well, to begin with, the saddle is a long, 290 millimeters. This length allows flexibility to move fore and aft in order to position yourself according to the terrain as well as necessary power output. In conjunction with the length, the narrow 125-millimeter width allows your hips to move freely for maximum power while pedaling. Fi'zi:k used its Wingflex Technology to further allow flexibility in leg and hip movement. It adds a bit of downward flex during pedaling which helps increase hip movement while minimizing chafing of the inner thigh.
In addition to being flexible, the Tundra M1 is also lightweight. Though not quite as light as the Tundra 00, which only has it beaten by 5 grams, the M1 features carbon braided rails. Now you may wonder if carbon is strong enough for trail riding. Well, the carbon rails used by Fi'zi:k are not only braided, they are also covered with an added layer of fibers. This increases durability and provides a textured surface where the seat post clamps. Additionally, the rails are not round. Instead, they are ovalized 9mm tall by 7mm wide -- which further increases strength. The one thing to note is that Fi'zi:k's carbon rails are not designed to be used with its ICS compatible saddle bags and lights.
The Fi'zi:k Tundra M1 Saddle weighs 150 grams and is available in Black/black.
