Fi'zi:k Tritone K:ium Saddle $200.00
Ride the nose
Triathletes are a special breed of cyclist. Triathletes often balance themselves on the nose of the saddle in positions that make even the toughest of bums cringe. To boot, they rarely have padded chamois, opting instead for that cushy piece of fleece as the only barrier between them and the saddle. Having a saddle that is comfortable while rolled forward on sensitive soft tissue is paramount. Fi'zi:k has developed a saddle that specifically addresses this position with its Tritone K:ium Saddle.
The Tritone Saddle is a UCI legal, 240mm long saddle. What makes it different from a typical road saddle? Well, the shape is designed for riders who are rolled forward. This position puts pressure on the front of the pelvis which, in males and females, can cause pinching, numbness and even permanent nerve damage. To start, the width of the saddle is 135mm, but this is not measured at the paddle. On a traditional bike saddle, the paddle is the widest part. However, the Tritone features a paddle that gradually tapers off. The widest part of the saddle occurs approximately where the pelvis sits when rotated forward. Even more importantly, the Tritone has a very short nose. This allows you to roll far enough forward so that your soft tissue is suspended and cradled by the deep cut-away channel rather than being pressed against a hard elongated nose.
The rails of the Trione were constructed from K:ium (rhymes with "zoom"). This material was designed to replace titanium, which has seen an astronomical increase in price over the past few years. What is impressive is that it is actually 8% lighter than titanium as well as being stronger and more durable. And your wallet will thank you. Additionally, the Tritone features a hook on the front of the saddle to easily hang your bike from the rack in transition. It's compatible with the Carriage Kit which affixes to the back of the saddle and will hold your water bottles, CO2 inflator, cartridges, and a spare tube.
The Tritone saddle is available in Black/white and Black/red.
