Fizik's research into its next generation of mountain bike saddles revealed something interesting: riders of 29ers sat differently on their saddles, farther back, often in such a way that they weren't supported the way they needed to be for optimal comfort and power transfer. The solution they devised was the Fizik Thar, a dedicated 29er saddle that better aligns riders over the bottom bracket without forcing them to shift the saddle unnaturally far forward, and this Kium-railed version keeps price down without sacrificing the support the saddle was designed to deliver.
This Thar, of course, gets Fizik's proprietary Kium rails, a light but durable alloy that serves to reduce cost while only adding a tiny weight penalty over the not-yet-released carbon-railed Thar. The shell of both is comprised of a carbon-reinforced nylon that incorporates Fizik's TwinFlex platform, a dialed flex pattern that allows movement of the shell's "wings" to accommodate natural pedaling motion of the legs without impeding the saddle's supportive structure. The Thar also gets a replaceable insert under the nose that can be swapped out to either firm-up or soften the saddle's overall demeanor. The flat profile of the Thar allows easy movement fore and aft on the saddle for navigating technical situations, and at 195g, the seat's weight is comfortably within the definition of light for a dedicated mountain bike saddle.
