Item # FIZ002G

Description

Though technically a mid-range shoe below the R1 Uomo, the Fizik R3 should win the award for the best value for money since not only is it lighter than the R1, but it's also easier on the pocketbook.

The first flourish you will likely notice is that the R3 uses the Boa IP1 closure system. That’s significant since the Boa is one of the most effective ways you can secure your shoes with a minimum of weight but a maximum of comfort. The system allows you to micro-adjust the fit without causing any pressure points or potential hotspots. And best of all, you can make any adjustments on the fly since the dial works easily in both directions, that is whether you want to tighten the set-up in preparation for a final sprint, or if you want to loosen them after several hours in the saddle on a hot day. The uppers are made from Microtex. Stepping away from the use of kangaroo leather, Microtex is a synthetic fabric that offers both durability and comfort. It is also immensely breathable, in large part thanks to the laser-made perfect perforations. At the lower end of the foot, there is a hook-and-loop strap to make sure you can secure the shoe exactly according to your preference. It is made from a high-tech Italian sail cloth, which gives the shoes that extra touch of class.

For the insole, the shoes make use of the Fizik Cycling Insole, which is an ergonomically designed EVA insole complete with a metatarsal pad for added comfort. It will provide support and just the right amount of cushioning. You won’t have to worry about hotspots developing since the insole works completely in conjunction with the outsole. The unidirectional carbon sole offers a stiffness that will help you feel the responsiveness of every pedal stroke. The sole is compatible with any three-bolt system.

  • Laser-perforated seamless Microtex upper
  • Boa IP1 dial closure
  • Hook-and-loop forefoot strap
  • UD carbon-fiber sole
  • EVA insole with metatarsal pad

Great Fit, Super Light

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 10.5

These shoes are great. Perfect fit, super light and the boa system works well. I believe they run true to size and are not to narrow...

Very Optimistic

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 45 cm

4 stars so far only because I have used for one ride. The power transfer is excellent and it is very comfortable! I am not sure about the breathability yet. There are plenty of perforations on the upper but no vents on the carbon sole. The BOA system works very well and can adjust to tighten and loosen the fit. Will most likely (as usual) swap out the insole with a specialized BG.
I am returning because one of the BOA dials is defective (cable running underneath the BOA fixture). The customer service at Competitive Cyclist is great as usual for sending a replacement pair and a shipping label for sending these back! Good job. Will provide update after more rides but this is definitely worth looking in to for an upper/mid range shoe.

Excellent shoe

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 44

After Specialized shoes for years, S-Works, Pro, I decided to try Fizik after reading the reviews. I ordered the same size I wear in Specialized and the fit is comparable, the shoe is very comfortable and I like the classic look.

Italian style and feather lite

Great fit and finish. Boa system makes adjustment easy. Carbon bottom provides stiffness. However, don't walk too far on gravel or they will scratch. Without a doubt, one of the lightest shoes on the market.

Spectacular road shoes

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 42.5

25+yrs riding in shoes including Carnac, Rocket7 (semi custom), DMT, and others, can say these are some of the best straight out of the box. The high fit and finish are the first thing you notice. About 300 miles in and the shoes feel fantastic on my feet, light to spin, and these clearly helping to generate additional watts on both the flats and the climbs by rounding out my pedal stroke.

Heel lifts out of shoe

I'm a size 10-10.5 and the 43's fit great, except when I put pressure on the ball of my foot (off bike), my heel lifts a good inch out of the shoe. Even when super tight this still happens. Maybe just me, but going back to strap enclosures.

After wearing Sidi's for many years, was drawn to the lightweight, comfort inherent in the Boa closure system, and clean look - and these have lived up to my hopes/expectations!

What size Sidi do you wear. In between sizes usually.

Are these the 2015 or 2016 models? I noticed on the Fizik website that the 2016 have a black tongue paded area.

2016, i have a pair of 2015 ones and their insoles are white. The 2016 ones have black insoles.

    Good but not great

    I have used
sidi's for the last 20 years and thought I would give another brand a try since there were some things about my last pair I was not thrilled with. The fiziks are narrow for there size. If your foot is a eee like mine look elsewhere. If you run your hand on the inside if this shoe you will feel just how rough it is. The Sidi is so much smoother and your feet can feel the difference. However the worst part of this shoe at least for me is how high up the ankle collar comes on the inside. It does not have the same radius as the outside of the shoe so when you ankle it drives right into the skin above the ankle. It seems to be breaking in but it is annoying. On the bright side the closing system in great and easy to use on the fly. The shoe feels very stiff and is all business when you put the hammer down. The just aren't as comfortable as I had hoped

    Great Shoe

I bought the R3B to replace a pair of S works. They fit great out of the box. I love the white very simple classic look. The Boa provides secure hold and the shoes breath very well. The carbon sole is stiff and transfers power for me extremely well. I wold definitely recommend them. Great shoe and of course made in Italy.

    Great Performing/Looking Shoes

I've been training and racing in these shoes for about 3 months now and they've been great. The length is a little off for me and I had to return a pair to get one that fits a little snugger. They look awesome. You can read my full review with photos here: http://atlantapeloton.com/blog/2015/8/5/fizik-r3-uomo-boa-shoes-review

I have a specialized expert road shoe size 45.5 how are these in comparison to the specialized shoes are they true to size? because normally i would be a 45 and spec u have to half size up...

As close to a perfect shoe as there is

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

There are some things certain folks just do better than others. And when it comes to cycling shoes, it's Italians. Awhile back I was looking for something more comfortable in a cycling shoe and decided to go with something a little wider (Giro Factor HDs) as my feet tended to feel a bit cramped in my previous shoes. At first the change seemed to suit me well however over time I began experiencing pain, discomfort, numbness and my personal little foot hell, hot spots.

I decided to give these babies a shot even though some of the reviews described them as a bit narrow and man am I glad I did. It's true they fit a little more snug but the shape is just damn near perfect. Don't get me wrong, like any cycling shoe they aren't too comfortable to walk in but after a couple thousand miles in them I'm confident in saying they're the best all around shoe I've ever tried. Comfort, check. Easily adjustable on the fly, check. Stiff where it counts and soft where it doesn't... check. And do they look good? Check Check Check.

I doubt I'll ever try another shoe again. These are pure foot sex.

Does this shoe have a manufacturer warranty like the R5 Uomo? ~Thanks

I can only answer for the BOA system which they will replace, and repair on any product with the BOA system. So any other part of the shoe I am not sure. The BOA system is a great product. This is the BOA warranty information page. https://www4.boatechnology.com/warranty

bought these shoes to replace my Shimano shoes. These will be used mainly to do some indoor cycling. Very well constructed and the shoes are great out of the box. No break in period needed. The Boa system is sturdy and the shoes look great.

    If the shoe fits..

Then wear it! Made the switch from Fizik's R1's and I couldn't be happier. The boa system gives it a snug fit, and the seamless upper makes the shoes look so clean. The shoes are just as stiff as the R1's, and they felt light and snug on my feet. Buy the white and be the envy of your group ride. You wont be disappointed!

    Ride like a pro

Wow... Best shoes ever! The new Boa system is amazing. Very snug fit and stiff. Super light weight and stylist. Went out for a 4hr ride the first time in them and no issues. Feels like a shoe I've used for years. Looking forward to many more great rides in them to come.
