Speed meets comfort.

While some shoe makers view comfort as an afterthought to rigidity, the Fi'zi:k R3 Donna Shoes strike the balance between them. This doesn't mean that the R3 forgoes a carbon fiber outsole or stiff upper, not even close. Instead, Fi'zi:k studied how to integrate each portion of the R3 in order for them to work cohesively. As a result, you get a shoe that operates as a dynamic system, not a long independent string of features.

The R3 Donna features two hook-and-loop straps along with an aluminum, ratcheting buckle. This system allows you to fully tune the fit and volume of the shoes both pre-ride and on-the-fly. The bottom two straps control the snugness of the fit at the metatarsal and instep areas. These straps are best adjusted before you hit the road and left alone thereafter.

The ratcheting strap is what dictates the entry and exit adjustments. The loading lever is made from aluminum that's been mated to a stainless steel base. It has a double-click adjustment capability with a full-release mechanism at the base of the lever. Together, the three strap system eliminates any internal foot slippage that depreciates your efficiency. To evenly distribute pressure across the top of the foot, Fi'zi:k made the strap dimensions wide. The strap design allows you to easily lengthen or shorten the strap in order to precisely dial-in the volume of the shoe. Also, each strap has been crafted from fully-adjustable length sail cloth in order to bolster durability while maintaining a low overall weight. For an extreme control over volume, or simply to efficiently clean the inside of the shoe, Fi'zi:k designed the tongue pad to be fully-removable.

To further control slippage, the R3 Donna has shaped the heel cup at the aft position of the shoe. This feature keeps the foot in the perfect position on hard up-strokes and while climbing out of the saddle. As a result, you're powering the pedals comfortably and efficiently. This has been further heightened by a variable stiffness sole construction. The base layer is an ultra-stiff carbon fiber plate. Second layer has been positioned closer to the heel. This layer is constructed from a material called Tepex that's a little more malleable than the carbon fiber in order to accommodate and support multiple heel and arch sizes. Encompassing both of these layers is a polyurethane Mobius rail that strikes the ideal balance between elasticity and rigidity. Together, the multiple layers work hand-in-hand with the insole and 3D upper to keep the heel in place and to maximize comfort.

And on the topic of comfort, Fi'zi:k went above and beyond to make the R3 extremely breathable. This might not be obvious, given the R3's lack of traditional mesh ventilation. However, the uppers of the shoe feature a mix of soft, yet durable kangaroo leather and Fi'zi:k's own Microtex microfiber -- yes, the same material used on Fi'zi:k saddles and bar tape. This material keeps your feet breathing and comfortable on long summer days in the saddle. And for the insole, Fi'zi:k included its own Cycling Insole. And while its not custom moldable like with the R1, it does incorporate a thoughtful design that assures comfort by absorbing road vibration and supporting your arch system.

The Fi'zi:k R3 Donna Shoes are available in odd and even sizes from 37.0 to 43.0 and in the colors Black/creme and Pure White.

Beware of sizing discrepancies !!!

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large

This shoe is extremely comfortable and I am excited to finally get the correct size. I am from Europe, so I know I am a 39, which is typically the same as an 8.5 in America and a 6.5 in the UK. When I checked the comparison chart on Back Country, it is all whacked out. If I l look at my EU size, which is a 39, Back Country says I should wear a UK 5 and a US 5.5. I definitely was confused and figured since the shoes are coming from Utah, USA, I should match my shoe size to the US size....that was a mistake. So I originally ordered the equivalent of the US 8.5, which is an EU 42. The shoes looked like a clown shoes. A more accurate conversion chart can be found at:
http://www.shoemetro.com/t-shoe-size-chart.aspx.
If I would have stuck with what I know my EU size is, I would have been golden.

what size fizik shoe did you end up with? And what size US do you normally wear?

Mixed review

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I loved the black and white ones. Cool design and different than everyone with Sidi's. But the white leather on the toe got scuffed and I fixed it with white out. So I jumped on the all black ones as soon as I saw them. But there are two problems. The first is the angle of the sole made the cleats difficult to attach, they had to be shimmed with 2 pieces of plastic. Then the outside toes are a weak mesh fabric and the ripped and got cut up when they hit anything. I actually sewed and glued them to keep them together. I will go back to the black and white ones I think.

Fizik R3 Donna shoes for woman

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I had to order 3 pairs (two all white and one black) in order to find my exact shoe size as Fizik's website shows totally different sizes than this website, Competitive Cyclist is more accurate by the way. Strangely enough the black one had different packaging and totally different feel to it; no arch support, narrower in the toe area, different look to it. I also have to mention that the description says ''For an extreme control over volume, or simply to efficiently clean the inside of the shoe, Fi'zi:k designed the tongue pad to be fully-removable." but the black one didn't have this feature.

The white feels really good. Very good arch support and comfortable.

Fizik Women?s R3 Donna Road Shoe

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I’ve tested this product over the last 8 months in Colorado.
From the previous version to the latest version I have found significant difference in the fit of the shoe. While previous versions stretched fairly quickly this current pair has maintained its original shape.
The sole of the shoe has also been a highlight from past versions. I’ve found less flex in the sole and this is something I prefer. The stiffer-sole is again another piece of the current R3 Donna that continues to maintain itself over months of riding through a variety of conditions.
The uppers of the shoe are made from Kangaroo leather and a Nylon mesh. The leather is flexible and the mesh allows for air to flow through keeping your feet cool in the dry weather in Colorado.
The straps are made to fight stretching and done so by using sailcloth. The two bottom straps are secured with Velcro. The top strap is made with an aluminum ratchet closure. My favorite piece of the shoe is the top strap and the adjustability range it entails. You can tighten the ratchet for a comfortable fit you can shorten the strap to fit your specific needs. To do so; thread the strap through the loop that doubles back on itself and secure the strap in place with the Velcro.
Bottom line Fizik has made significant improvements to focus on the needs of a women cyclist to make a comfortable lasting shoe.
I would recommend this shoe for a woman that is looking for a little more performance.
