Treat your feet.

The R1 Uomo Shoes are the top offering from the Italian craftsmen at Fi'zi:k. Handmade in Italy, the R1 checks all of the boxes with a moldable insole, an advanced carbon fiber sole design, and ultra-soft, kangaroo leather uppers. Basically, the R1 provides your feet with the lightest comfort available to mankind.

The R1 Uomo features two hook-and-loop straps along with Fi'zi:k's Hex/MC carbon fiber ratcheting buckle. This system allows you to fully tune the fit and volume of the shoes both pre-ride and on-the-fly. The bottom two straps control the snugness of the fit at the metatarsal and instep areas. These straps are best adjusted before you hit the road and left alone thereafter.

The ratcheting strap is what dictates the entry and exit adjustments. The loading lever is made from carbon fiber that's been mated to a stainless steel base. It has a double-click adjustment capability with a full-release mechanism at the base of the lever. Together, the three strap system eliminates any internal foot slippage that depreciates your efficiency. To evenly distribute pressure across the top of the foot, Fi'zi:k made the strap dimensions wide. The strap design allows you to easily lengthen or shorten the strap in order to precisely dial-in the volume of the shoe. Also, each strap has been crafted from fully-adjustable length sail cloth in order to bolster durability while maintaining a low overall weight. For an extreme control over volume, or simply to efficiently clean the inside of the shoe, Fi'zi:k designed the tongue pad to be fully-removable.

To further control slippage, the R1 Uomo has shaped the heel cup at the aft position of the shoe. This feature keeps the foot in the perfect position on hard up-strokes and while climbing out of the saddle. As a result, you're powering the pedals comfortably and efficiently. This has been further heightened by a variable stiffness sole construction. The base layer is an ultra-stiff carbon fiber plate. Second layer has been positioned closer to the heel. This layer is constructed from a material called Tepex that's a little more malleable than the carbon fiber in order to accommodate and support multiple heel and arch sizes. Encompassing both of these layers is a polyurethane Mobius rail that strikes the ideal balance between elasticity and rigidity. Together, the multiple layers work hand-in-hand with the insole and 3D upper to keep the heel in place and to maximize comfort.

And on the subject of the R1's comfort, Fi'zi:k has gone to another level with its 3D Flex Insole design. This insole is heat moldable and fully customizable for the three areas of the foot -- the longitudinal arch, metatarsal button, and the heel cup. To develop this, Fi'zi:k teamed up with Sidas Technologies of France for the design process, and three materials were decided upon. At the metatarsal and longitudinal arches, the insole features the Podiaflex material. Podiaflex was selected for the arch, because its highly moldable properties allow it to perfectly support and conform to your arches. To absorb road vibration and chatter, Fi'zi:k placed Ortholite along the pedal axle portion of the insole. This material is a low-rebound foam and has been cut to the average size of pedal. Having this in place nearly eliminates the numbness generated from long miles clipped-in on the road. Finally, encompassing the heel cup, we the solid and supportive, thermoplastic known as Transflux. Working as a system, we see that the 3D Flex design evenly distributes pressure on the foot, or as Fi'zi:k says, 'the insole is supportive, not corrective or obtrusive.'

The Fi'zi:k R1 Uomo Shoes are available in the colors Black and White and in odd and even sizes ranging from 40.0 to 48.0. Please go to Fi'zi:k's official website for instructions on how to mold the 3D Flex Insoles.

Dreamy

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size

I absolutely love these shoes. They fit true to size and are extremely comfortable out of the box. The kangaroo leather is super soft and molds quickly to your feet. They are also incredibly light which makes them dreamy to wear on long rides. I also love the carbon soles. They're super stiff, allows for a great power transfer. I have no complaints at all with my decision.

Great and Comfy but the details!

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

The Shoe reminds me of a FIAT car, looks great performs well but try to replace a part, the skid plate is a flawed design, keeps getting lose and wears out fast without much walking. Fizik has the audacity to charge you 48EURO!!! on their Webpage, = 55$ - sounds like a bad joke! Also they have never heard that you don't charge VAT when you sell to the US….any specialized shoe part will cost you a fraction of Fizik. Made in italy - no thank you on this one. Maybe competitive cyclist can source the part cheaper ?

This shoe is very strong and durable! I have my One for more than 2 years and its much beter than when is new! The kangaroo Leather ned some time to fit on your feet, after that is like heaven! Its not hot ( I am living in Brasil) and is very confortable. I use 44 in SIDIS and bought 44 in This fizik, the fit is beter for médium volume feet, but it have a lot of regulations, so I dont think narrow or wide feet Will have trouble. After two years its like new, and I am not a carefull owner.

Sorry fizik two big problems with these shoes

    1. The molded carbon sole curves up along the outside of your foot creating pressure points along the outside of your foot.

    2. The ratchet housing fell out after a dozen rides and I have not been able to find replacement parts. Is it too hard to put a little lock-tite on your screws?

On the plus side I do like the large toe box which allows your metatarsal arch to spread out comfortably.

How are these in hot weather (90*+)?

I have pair of Fi'si:k R3 Uomo and my feet overheat in them in hot weather. I am hoping these breathe better.

The Fizik R1 and R3 shoes both have uppers made of kangaroo leather and breathable mesh. The R1 actually uses more leather over the arch an instep of the shoe than the R3, This makes for better support and fit, but it will probably not translate to cooler feet on a hot day. Here is a top view of the shoe from http://www.fizik.com/shoes/road-shoes/r1-uomo/

If your feet are suffocating on super-hot days, look for a road shoe with a vents on the sole and a lighter synthetic upper with more mesh.

    Incredible Shoes!

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

What a fantastic investment, Kangaroo leather really is all that. I got the R1's about 6 weeks ago and have put at least 800 miles on them. No more hot spots or discomfort whatsoever. Took my feet a few rides to get used to them but it's pure love. Never did mold the insoles either. Love the retro, simple logo look too.

Very interested in these. Any pointers on fit and sizing? I ride 45's in Bont.

Pretty spot on euro sizing. High arches though (good for me).

how do fizik shoes fit? I use Bont 45, Sidi 45, should I go 45 on fizik aswell? thanks
