Who clips in these days?

Some like to attract attention with their personal stylings, and for them, there's the Blue Zebra. However, if you like to let your riding tell your tale, then the Five Ten Freerider Shoe in black/grey will do the trick. The understated colors will help you keep a low profile, that is, until you tailwhip over the big double at your local dirt jump spot and stick the pedals for a perfect landing.

Five Ten's Stealth Rubber was developed for rock climbing shoes. As such, it has excellent gription which makes it super easy to keep your feet on the pedals. Just think, no shinburger for dinner... again. It's also super durable. It had to be tough for climbing shoes to suffer the wear and tear from hard granite cliffs for days on end. The Freerider Shoes may just have a tougher job. They have to endure the prodding from the metal spikes on your pedals all day, but the Stealth Rubber can take it. Five Ten Stealth Rubber soles will outlast the gum rubber sole on a conventional skate shoe every time and stick better to your pedals all the while.

The Freerider Shoe has all the style that you want and the bomber sole that you need to land big tricks without blowing your feet. The grey panels on the upper are made of brushed nubuck leather. The toe box is reinforced to provide added protection if you lose it in mid-air. And one of the coolest details is the California license plate on the back of the heel.

The Five Ten Freerider Shoe is available in Black/Grey, Red/Black, Red/Grey, and Orange/Grey and comes in half sizes from 4 - 12  and whole sizes 13 and 14.

  • Nubuck leather uppers with reinforced toe box
  • Stealth Rubber soles

Cool Shoes, Man

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

These are the perfect shoe for anybody looking to not be clipped into their peddles. They are super stiff and the rubber sticks to the peddle like Velcro on...well the other part of Velcro without the fear of being locked in on those times when you gotta maneuver a bit. I mean, if I keep riding with these bad boys, I'll be sending Rampage by next October.

Stealth rubber never fails

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

There's not much more to say about any pair of Five Ten shoes than anyone else has covered. They're fantastic, they're durable, and the Stealth rubber is some maniacal cross between super glue and flubber. The 'pattern' on the bottom of the shoe seems to allow you to adjust your foot with a minor twist compared to Five Tens that just have a solid flat bottom. This is a welcome thing, however, since removing your foot completely to re-situate isn't always an option.

They seem to run true-to-size if you base it off of your Euro size, but plan to drop a half size if you're going to base it solely off of your US size.

Planted Feel on Pedals

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

After riding in skate shoes, I decided to go for the FiveTen Freeriders. Huge difference. Stiffer soles definitely makes it easier pedaling/standing. I read all about how sticky these things are on the pedals and there is no exaggeration. It caught me off guard the first time when I tried to adjust.

Definitely recommend these to anyone looking for a solid shoe for downhill/all round mountain biking.

Super Sticky

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I love these shoes for riding and casual use. The soles are super sticky but not too stiff. Fairly light weight and lots of colors to choose from. What's not to like?

BEST. SHOES. EVER

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 11.00

Bought these for use with some HT Components flat pedals, and they stick like glue. Comfortable for long climbs and lift accessed descents alike. If you are riding with regular tennis shoes, give these a try and you will never go back. Consider sizing down a half size.

Solid Shoe For the Price

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 11

If you are looking for a do everything shoe at a reasonable price give theses a shot! The Freeriders have killer grip when paired with a nice pair of flat pedals. They are wide and flat on the bottoms giving you a great feeling on the pedals and rock solid security when hitting drops, table tops, rock gardens and technical uphill climbs. If you want to hear more about my opinion on these shoes feel free to reach out to me directly. Have a great time riding!

Amazing grip

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Bought these to go with my Shimano Saint spike pedals. These work perfect. Complete grip to the pedals. Previously riding clipless, I switched to platforms and bought these shoes to go along with. I was worried about losing torque on the up pedal, but these do provide support. Could not be happier.

Perfect...

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I ended up having to order these right from FiveTen because backcountry didn't carry my size in the color I wanted... but I'm really happy with them. They look good and have plenty of room so my feet are never uncomfortable.

Fits wide feet! Fits Wide Feet

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I have been searching high and low to find shoes that are even close to wide fitting. I need to ride in these, but so far wearing them around the house they actually fit my 4e feet. Stoked to get them out on the trail.

Update****

They ride awesome. Seriously wish I would of gone to platform pedals and shoes a long time ago.

***my ridding =mostly Fire Road Climbs, Rocky steep descents. Straight up straight down.

Form and function

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 14

The rubber on these is interesting. It's the stealth rubber. It grips flat pedals like nobody's business. They seem to be best with metal spike flats. The rubber seems to have a slight memory so it squishes around the pegs. As others have mentioned, mud? No problem. I had to walk a lot in the mud my last ride. Hopped on the bike and I'll be damned if they didn't just hook right up, every time! Didn't even need to clear the bottom of the shoes. They're amazing! Wearing them off the bike is fine. I have noticed the stealth rubber molds to little rocks and debris and they can get stuck to it for a couple steps. It's so good at its intended purpose, I just think of it as an unavoidable thing, not knocking any points off for that. Has a perfect sole stiffness for a shoe that can be worn casually, and feel nice and solid cranking on the pedals. The hellcats I tried and returned, they were too stiff, for example. These have a great balance. Great styling, light, functional... Form AND function, can't ask for more! Fits true to size.

Classics!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 9

These shoes are tried and true classics! At one point, I had 6 different pairs. Not only are they functional on a bike, but they are super comfortable to wear as casual shoes too. Five Ten are most recognized with the DH and free ride scene due to the insane amount of grip that the sticky rubber has. Superior grip on any pedals - whether DH/free ride oriented flats, or even low end plastic pedals, these shoes keep your feet to the pedal. They are very durable as well, I think I still have a pair in the closet even, that would be close to 8 years old that are still in great shape, granted they haven't been worn in the last 5 years... I guess anything can last forever if you never use it. If you are looking for a great pair of shoes and are an old school no clips for me person, you definitely cannot go wrong with these shoes. They are almost like riding clips though with the amount of stickiness they will provide.

I am like a perfect product sample person. I wear a medium in just about everything and a size 9 shoe

Best MB Shoe...

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 10

I don't like to clip in on the MB, so I've been riding with my running shoes or a trail shoe, depending. I really just wanted more of a platform with a less-intrusive sole. This shoe is exactly that. I'm generally very happy with the shoe...I just wish it were wider for my super-phat foot. It's the best out there, but I'd love to see more choices in the market.

Sticks like glue!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 10.5

If you are going to rock platforms these are the shoes to have! The stealth soles are incredible and seriously grab the pedals like no other. I use these shoes for all my mountain bike riding, whether I am following a bunch of hard-tail climbers or trying to keep up on the gnarly downhill trails in Park City. They are so comfortable that I often times wear them around town, even when covered in mud...

Grab yourself a pair are see why everyone is stoked on these shoes!

Sticks like glue!

Believe the Hype - Buy These Now

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

My husband and I both got a pair of these Five Ten for downhill riding. However, I like these shoes so much, I've gone back to platform pedals with these shoes on my trail bike. (Granted, I'm not that great of a rider and struggle with clipless pedals.) They are super sticky. If you are riding platforms or thinking about riding platforms then get these shoes. Walk through the mud, hop on your bike, and ride on: these shoes won't let you down.

I wear a 7.5 in women's shoes and ordered a 6 in these. They fit well. My husband usually wears a 13 and the 13 in these shoes work for him.

The only complaint I have is that the shoe strings are super long. However, this is better than them being too short. I just tuck them under the laces and don't have any problems.

Casual look Comfortable and True to Size

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

Priced at just under $100.00 I would say these are a little on the pricey side but the Stealth Rubber Sole is awesome! Super Tacky in terms of grip and 100% gets the job done! Would recommend these to any rider that doesn't want to make the jump to a clip in as the performance output is on par, yet you get that comfy fit and casual look!!!

What is all the hype about 5 ten

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I had a different brand shoe. Just thought Five Ten was one of those cool guy apparel until I tried them. They stick!!

There is a reason these are the standard. Not much extra protection hey it is a freeride enduro type shoe not DH.

Falling in love with flat pedals

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: 10

I've been using clipless for years, but decided to try out the flat pedals this season, as I was doing a bunch of resort riding and got sick of switching my pedals back and forth.
These shoes are very comfortable to ride in and look pretty good too. But the sole is super thin, which means good feel and grip on the pedals, but also means you feel every little rock on the ground if you are walking. Still better than walking in clipless shoes though.
Overall, highly recommended.
