Description

Exposure's Strada Mk5 Road Specific Light features the same high-tech resin lens technology as the rest of Exposure's lights, except a distinct beam pattern provides better light dispersion for paved surfaces.

The lens is specifically designed to maximize light collection from the two Cree XPG R5 LEDs and efficiently produce a flat, wide pattern to light shoulders and road ahead without disturbing oncoming cyclists and motorists alike. And, with an output of 800 lumens, not blinding other road users becomes crucial.

It also includes a remote switch so you can shuffle between a 'dipped beam' and bright without removing your hands from the bars. Another safety oriented feature is Exposure's Smart Port Technology Plus. It's a cylindrical plug on the back of the lamp unit that allows you to insert the smart charger, but, also enables accessories like a red LED taillight, back-up batteries, or you can charge other USB-powered devices with it.

Smart Port Technology automatically recognize each accessory and configures the system to take a charge or power accessory lights. Powering the Strada Mk5 is an 8700mAh Lithium ion battery that's packaged inside the CNC'd, aerospace grade aluminum housing. The extensive machining, however, isn't just to look cool.

It's actually designed to help heat transfer -- to physically cool the light. Packing two Cree XPG R5 LED's, the Strada Mk5 can generate excessive heat. One way it's managed is through the weather-tight body, the other way it's managed is with Exposure's patented Intelligent Thermal Management (ITM).

If the internal temperature gets too high, ITM kicks in and automatically drops the power level down to the next lowest setting. It will remain at the lower setting until the temperature inside the housing returns within normal operating range. This, and the weatherproof housing, ensures the light's battery and LED bulbs are safe from moisture, muck, and heat for a long life span.

The Strada Mk5 also features Exposure's Optimum Mode Selector. OMS offers eight preprogramed settings for optimal lighting depending on ride conditions. After all, the requirements needed for a high-paced night ride are quite different than a week of commuting -- and OMS lets you tune the light for any of those conditions.

For example; in the first OMS setting, the Strada Mk5 will push 800 Lumens for 3hrs in high, medium gets you 10hrs at 300 Lumens, and low nets 140 Lumens at 24 hours. Or, you can select the second mode that allows greater battery life by knocking down peak output to 520 Lumens for a 5 hour run time.

OMS modes are selected using the power button located on the back of the unit. The new info display resides under a clear silicone covering with color mode LED's that double as the OMS display indicator and a fuel gauge. The Exposure Strada Mk5 Road Specific Light comes with a 31.8mm handlebar clamp and shims for 25.4mm bars

Bulletproof and Crazy Bright

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

My initial impression when pulling this light out of its custom zippered carrying case was its size. On further inspection the build quality, high grade materials, and attention to detail really started to impress me. The weight is reasonable for the light output, not heavy enough to really effect anything but not completely unnoticeable. Mounting is straightforward, it was refreshing to see the mounting hardware made out of high quality aluminum instead of plastic like most mounts.

This light is bright! While commuting I’ve had cars flash their brights at me. I found that the lower setting was ample for most night road riding. This is marketed as a road specific design due to the light pattern but I’ve used it night mountain biking and found it did a more than adequate job of lighting up the trail.

The battery life is good, expect only a few solid hours on high more than enough for any night ride I’ve done, and a lot more if you are on a lower setting or flash mode. I don’t use it daily but I’ve had it for a couple years and haven’t seen any noticeable battery life degradation. You can charge with the included wall outlet charger or the USB cable that’s included. I’d also like to note that there’s a wired switch you can mount on your handlebars and plug into the light to control it. I’ve never messed around with this, the button on the back of the light itself has always been convenient enough for me and one of my favorite things about this light over one with an external battery pack is how simple taking it on and off is. I plan on keeping this light for years to come.

Best Road Light

I'm a big fan of Exposure lights & have several. The Strada is simply awesome for road use. Optimized beam for road use, all the power you need for fast technical descents, long battery life for those epic rides. Programmable to fit your need and convenient remote. I run the remote cable under my bar tape, secure and always there when I need it.

Great Customer Support

Recently one of my Exposure Flares and an Exposure STRADA (great road light) stopped working for no reason almost on the same day. They would not turn on. I contacted Competitive with the problem and was directed to IBEX Sports Customer Support. I feared poor support and was pleasantly surprised. IBEX representative courteously instructed me to mail him the lights and a week later I had a replacement for both. No questions asked. I really like their lights, but is great to know that Exposure and IBEX stand behind their products in the event something goes wrong. Will continue to use and recommend their products...

One Bad Ass Light

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

I used this on a 24 hr race a few weeks ago. I rode using the OMS setting 1 low power for most of the race, only needing to use full power on the descents (lap race). One charge lasted all night - easily. I still had 3 of 5 power indicator LED's lit when the sun rose.

Very high quality mount - the entire light exudes quality and function. It's a bit heavy, but a small price to pay for a single unit.

I use this light when I bike commute - It's more than bright enough to assist visibility even during the day. I do wish I would have forked out a few more clams for the Exposure six-pack.
