This Exposure Joystick Mk8 and RedEye Light Pack combines the tiny RedEye rear light with a 400 lumen Joystick Mk8 for front and rear visibility in a helmet-mounted design. The RedEye cleanly attaches to the Joystick Mk8 via Exposure's Smart Port Technology Plus.
Essentially, it's a cylindrical plug on the back of the lamp unit that allows you to insert the smart charger, backup batteries, or accessories like the RedEye LED taillight. It's even able to charge other USB-powered devices, and it automatically recognizes each accessory and configures the system to take a charge or power accessory lights.
The RedEye tips the scales around a svelte 28 grams, while the Joystick's low weight and one-piece design weighs in at under 90 grams. So, the combo won't cause fatiguing bobble-head effect. And as a one-piece design, the Joystick's 2900mAh Lithium ion battery is enclosed within an aerospace-grade, exquisitely CNC'd aluminum body.
The extensive machining, however, isn't just to look cool. It's actually designed to help heat transfer in order to physically cool the light. Packing one Cree XPG R5 LED, the Joystick Mk7 is capable of generating excessive heat. One way it's managed is through the weather-tight body, the other way it's managed is with Exposure's patented Intelligent Thermal Management (ITM).
If the internal temperature gets too high, ITM kicks in and automatically drops the power level down to the next lowest setting. It will remain at the lower setting until the temperature inside the housing returns within normal operating range. This, and the weatherproof housing, ensures that the light's battery and LED bulbs are safe from moisture, muck, and heat for a long life span.
Another feature found on the Joystick Mk8 is Exposure's Optimum Mode Selector. OMS provides eight pre-programmed settings to provide the optimum lighting for nearly every ride condition. After all, the requirements needed for a high-paced trail ride are quite different than a 24hr race or a week of commuting. The OMS modes are selected using the power button located on the back of the unit, and an info display resides under a clear silicone covering with three color mode LED's that double as the OMS' display indicator and fuel gauge.
Exposure's Joystick MK8 attaches to your helmet via a small, yet sturdy threaded mount, and the RedEye attaches to the Joystick itself.
