Ergon SR3 Pro Carbon Saddle $0.00
Ergon's carved out a niche among endurance mountain bikers by taking rider comfort to new heights, and now it's set sights on the road market. The SR3 Pro Carbon Saddle tops this new range of saddles with carbon rails, a composite shell, and three widths.
Ergon's first products were handlebar grips that gained a quick cult following because of their support and ability to reduce fatigue. Using the same benchmark design principle, Ergon designed the SR3 saddles from the ground up. To start with, the ultra-thin carbon fiber shell used an extensive finite element method analysis to map loads and areas of stress. This gave the saddle its distinctive shape, but more importantly, it allowed Ergon to tune the shell construction for optimized deflection.
The shell is actually 3D, and it features "hollows" that provide controlled flex at the sit bones. Covering the shell are progressive dampening layers that are individual to the different saddle widths. Every size option gets its own layering for rider-specific compression. Adding to the SR3's chatter-smoothing ability, is a nose mounted micro damper.
This damper, located in between the shell and carbon fiber rails, filters out smaller vibrations, and works in conjunction with the isolated rear mounting in order to allow the shell to float independent of the rails. The result is one of the most forgiving saddles on the market. The rails provide 30mm of adjustment for a proper fitting.
The SR3 also has an easy-to-clean synthetic leather cover — just wipe it off with a damp rag. But more important than saddle hygiene is its silicone side coating. This reduces chafing, always a good thing, and it also ensures that riders are able to effortlessly shift weight fore or aft to enhance both power or comfort.
Ergon is a German, yet instead of manufacturing the saddles itself, Ergon enlisted the help of the saddle perfectionists at Selle Italia. As a result, every SR3 is manufactured in Italy by expert craftsmen. To size yourself for an Ergon SR3 Pro Carbon Saddle, you'll need to measure the distance between your sit bones. The Small width fits sit bones 9-11cm apart, the Medium 11-13cm, and Large 13-15cm. This allows you to ensure proper support for not only long term comfort, but efficient and unrestricted pedaling as well.
The Ergon SR3 Pro Carbon Saddle is available in the colors Black and White and in the sizes Small, Medium, and Large.

My Hamstrings Weren't Happy
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I was excited to try this saddle but it just didn't work due to the strange shape, and I tried adjusting the angle and setback a couple times. The back of the saddle has a nice butt pocket, but when positioned there (and farther forward) the flared corners dug into my hamstrings with each pedal stroke making riding extremely uncomfortable. There is minimal firm padding, but that wouldn't be a problem if the ergonomics were better. If they hacked off those odd corners this might be a great saddle. As for the construction and materials the saddle is very nice, which is no surprise since it is made in Italy by Selle Italia.
Who actually manufactures these saddles?...
Who actually manufactures these saddles? The same people that manufacture the Kurve for Fizik?
They are made by Selle Italia in Italy.
Is there a difference between the Tinox...
Is there a difference between the Tinox rails and carbon rails beyond just the weight (i.e. does one material dampen vibration more than another, durability, etc.)? And are the shells on the Ergon SR3 and SR3 carbon the same?
I've found that carbon rails help dampen vibration a bit over metal rails. The major difference though is the rail size. The metal rails are 7mm round and the carbon rails are 7mm wide and 9mm tall, so your seatpost clamp might not be compatible. The shells for the SR3 Pro and SR3 Pro Carbon are "Carbon Fibre Ultra Thin Y-Flex Construction" as stated on the Ergon website. The SR3 shell is a GFK-Composite.
