What happens when the aero-engineering legend Simon Smart, and ENVE Composites team up? Well, the ENVE Smart System line of wheels, of course. Simply put, the SES lineup plays host to some of the highest levels of strength-to-weight ratios, race-ready stiffness, and watts-saving aerodynamics that we've ever seen. And of course, the ENVE SES 6.7 Carbon Clincher Wheelset is a shiny apple in this family tree.

As part of the ENVE Smart System, SES series, the 6.7 carbon clincher uses ENVE's most sophisticated technology and engineering techniques in order to ensure a fast, stiff, and aerodynamic wheelset. The 6.7's aerodynamic design starts with the size differential of the wheels. ENVE accounted for the different behaviors of front and rear wheels, and designed the 6.7s with the front wheel that's 60mm deep and 26mm wide, while the rear wheel is 70mm deep and 24mm wide. The front wheel's shallow profile and wide stance helps decrease drag in windy conditions. On the other hand, the rear wheel's depth decreases drag, because stability is less affected at the aft position of the bike. According to ENVE, the 6.7s create a low drag number rivaling many competitors' 60mm wheels. In fact, when comparing the necessary power required to hold 40kph at yaw angles ranging from 0 to 16 degrees, the 6.7 goes toe-to-toe with the Zipp 808 Firecrest Clincher and is leaps and bounds ahead of the 404 Firecrest Clincher -- even more so at yaw angles 11 degrees and above.

Outside of consistent aerodynamic performance, the most noticeable advantage of the 6.7 carbon clincher wheelset is its enhanced stability. The 6.7 demonstrates stellar results under the ENVE Stability Index, a series of tests that incorporate the measurement of transient aerodynamics. In the wind tunnel, the front wheel is subjected to quick changes in wind degree at set yaw angles, and the steering torque of user-correction is then measured. The test represents real-world conditions, and surprisingly, ENVE is one of the only non-Formula One manufacturers to conduct it. The 6.7 shape was developed as a result of these tests, and it ensures predictable airflow attachment over the rim, regardless of crosswind. In fact, the linear steering response trumps even the Zipp Firecrest series. In a crosswind, the 6.7 experiences a buildup of side-force equal to the changing angle of the wind, and the predictability prevents the need for rider over-correction.

The Smart System 6.7 clincher is not only aero, but it's also lightweight, stiff, and strong. The ENVE SES series boasts the highest strength-to-weight ratio on the market, and this is due in part to ENVE's patented process of molding in-spoke holes, nipple seats, and valve stem holes. Knowing that carbon fiber gains strength from continuous fibers, ENVE routes the fibers around each hole in a 100% intact design. This design allows a lower weight at the spoke face, and adds overall rigidity to the rim. When built, the molded design promotes both higher spoke tension and tension uniformity than the industry standard of bladder molding. Another aspect of the 6.7's light weight is due to ENVE's use of removal bladders during the molding process. While most composite rim manufacturers leave the rim-shaping, inflatable bladder within the rim, ENVE spends the time and money to remove it. This time-consuming process reduces rim weight, and makes for a perfectly tensioned wheel build.

And outside of incredible strength-to-weight ratios and insane levels of compliant rigidity, ENVE has also taken the time to ensure that you can stop at great speeds -- an all-too-common ailment of the carbon clincher. To do so, the 6.7 has been given a textured braking surface that promotes a positive engagement with your pads, even in wet conditions. So, you can descend like a banshee without the worry of overheating or only being able to scrub speed.

The ENVE Smart System 6.7 carbon clinchers use a 20/24 spoke count, and are built with DT Aerolite bladed spokes on DT Swiss 240 hubs.

The 6.7 is probably the most versatile wheel I own. this month I used it in an ironman 70.3 and a road race with a 5 mile finishing climb. They are my go to when I just don't know what to ride. They have held up through horrible weather and have never let me down, the 240 hubs are bombproof. The 6.7's are light enough to climb with and just plain quick on the flats. Absolutely blown away

I read all of the reviews, all of the marketing, but was hesitant. Boy was I wrong, these wheels are AMAZING.

My outgoing wheels that these are compared to were Dura Ace C35's, not exactly a junky factory equipped wheel. These new ENVE wheels are more comfortable, smoother, and MUCH faster, and as an added bonus, wow do they make cool sounds when accelerating, cruising at higher speeds, and braking (kind of like a turbo spooling on a car). The part that surprised me was that I got blown around LESS than on my C35's, which, at least in the rear, are HALF as deep! I purposefully went out to a highway with a lot of trucks and was pretty nervous with the first couple that went past me but after the 2nd one I was right at home. These wheels are much deeper and yet only gain about 50 grams over my C35's all said and done. If you used ENVE skewers on the C35's, the gap would increase to a little over 100g but still negligible compared to the aero benefits.

I ride road/cx/mtb, but most of my road rides are in the 40-60 mile range. My first ride on these wheels was 75 miles and I was a little fatigued and coming off a sickness and still set my fastest average speed EVER by 0.5mph. Compared to "good" rides (not "best ever") I was a full 1.0mph faster and compared to "average" rides I was 1.4mph faster. I have a power meter so I know this was not just "new bike toy adrenaline", as I had lower average power than I normally do and the first ride was longer than normal (to reiterate, normal is 40-60 and this ride was 75).

Braking is the one area where I have not really stressed these wheels. I live in the valley and average about 10ft/mile for local rides (can average over 200ft/mile if I drive 30 miles) so I can't speak to that aspect of performance just yet. However, in hard braking on flat terrain there is ZERO loss in performance compared to the Dura Ace C35's. I'm a 6'6" 235lb rider so braking power is very important to me.

I'd also like to thank the Competitive Cyclist staff who was very helpful with the order, followed up with a personal call about the order to make sure I had everything I needed, and lightning fast delivery sure doesn't hurt. I really could not be more happy with the process and the product. If you're on the fence, don't wait, these wheels will change the way you ride!

Good for tubeless setting?

I wouldn't recommend setting these up tubeless. Enve didn't design these to be run tubeless.

Indestructible! I live by this stuff.

    I own a pair of these and have raced, trained, and even commuted on them for some time now. I crashed on these pretty bad last year during a crit. A fellow sprinter and I came together at the finish and his foot went through my wheel, breaking half or more the spokes and my leaving my wheel seemingly destroyed. After some photos shared to enve and a quick chat, Enve made it known to my shop / mechanic that these wheels are known to come back from some major "out of true" situations. My wheel was more than 5" out from end to end. No one thought twice about them being repairable. A handful of new spokes and whalaaa. I been racing on them all season since..

    superb race wheels

    I used these wheel just on race days, and in a few hillier Tri's. After riding Zipps for many years the Enve have taken over as my favorite race wheels. Safe to race for even a smaller rider in crosswinds, one of the few deeper race wheels I would feel comfortable on in the winds. For me personally on some races that had a lot of climbing I preferred the 3.4's but rode the 6.7's in more races overall. They are very stiff and will get up to speed quickly which I think can be an issue as you get to a deeper dished wheel. They absorb the road chatter you get on poor pavement and are solid on high speed descents. The Enve 6.7 is definitely on my top 5 list of wheels and probably in the top 2, if I had to own one wheel set for racing-training, I would run with these in a clincher.     Does the Chris King R45 option come with ceramic bearings?

    The Chris King hubs don?t come Ceramic and we actually find the ceramic bearings wear much faster (and Kings have much more drag than DT) so I?d suggest looking at the DT 240 wheels if you want lower rolling resistance or even special ordering the wheels with DT 180 hubs if you want ceramic.     I have made several upgrades in the past decade, but nothing has given me the "Steve Jobs" child-like sense of wonder like these wheels. They fly on the flats, obviously, they are more susceptible to cross winds than the marketing would suggest, but what nobody seems to tell you is that they climb like 140 pound PRO tour specialist. They are so stiff, so responsive, and so adept at converting your effort into speed on the road. The cost is for one of those rare products still made with special care and with integrity. Their warranty is unmatched, and for me, it means that they are willing to stand by their product. Enjoy friends!

    Used ZIPP 404 Tubular Firecrest, which BTW were great wheels, but got tired of gluing and dishing out $100+ when sealer wouldn't hold after a flat.

    After reading numerous reviews and talking with guys who have raced on them I decided to take the plunge. Since I already have a 1200g set of light all-around wheels I opted for the 6.7 instead of the 3.4 to deal with fast flat & rolling rides here in North Texas.

    My first set arrived with molding imperfections in the lip of the side wall which anchors the bead of the clincher. Of course this kind of thing can happen during the molding/layup process, and CC (like always) took care of it, by sending me a replacement ASAP.

    I paired them with Vittoria Open Corsa EVO CX III tires and their latex tubes. First ride impressions...WOW! The DFW area is quite windy and this day was no exception, 15-20mph winds with 30mph gusts. Honestly I was a bit concerned that these were too deep for the conditions.

    I was amazed at how stable these wheels were given all the wind. It seems like they were trying to self correct in the crosswinds. I know that sounds crazy, but they just wanted to stay straight with little input...very, very stable!

    Speed, these things are fast and feel much faster than their spec weight. I expected them to be slower on take-off, but was pleasantly surprised. In my opinion, they far surpass the 404's in this department. Out of the saddle, they gain speed with lightening quickness (no loss of power). You'll cruise at 25mph effortlessly while your buddies are struggling to keep up. The 6.7s hold their speed Very Well!

    They're no slouch when climbing short, punchy hills either, and eat up rolling terrain with ease. Braking in dry is better than any other carbon wheel I've ridden.

    I have been using them exclusively for the past year, all conditions including rain, and can honestly say that they are a masterpiece. I was skeptical at first, but now realize that they are "Worth the Hype"

    A+ I use these as an "All-Around" solution. Daily commutes and daily training as well as Century rides. Not only are they tough as nails but once you get them spinning they give you that feeling that they want to just keep on going faster & faster..

    As for wind, I ride them in Austin Tx. It's windy here in the winter months and I haven't noticed any problems riding them in 10-20mph X-winds.

    Did I mention someone actually fell down onto my bike and landed on the back wheel with full body force (Butt first onto the spokes and rim-wall) and it didn't even phase them.

    I bought the wheels for the simple reason that I wanted them. I did not expect them to make me faster, etc. Having said that, they do seem to be faster than my older (non-aero) wheels. It's hard to quantify, but the PR's are coming steadily on routes I've ridden for multiple years and many times.

    I had no experience with carbon or aero wheels, and these wheels do feel different. The ride is slightly more harsh due to the deep section, but not overly so. I've read that people feel the 6.7s are easier to maintain speed with. That's subjective at this point but I would have to agree.

    I haven't noticed any issues climbing, but even at 1500 plus grams these wheels are lighter than what I'm used to by 200-300 grams so that's not surprising.
