I love these wheels

I've put about 2,000 miles on my wheels and they have been simply amazing. I've not had any of the issues listed below - heat and broken spokes. I wonder if there were a few bad batches in the past (mine are 2013). I live in Utah so lots of big descents. They brake flawlessly (was concerned when they were new and the pads weren't seated because I had a hard time slowing them down on descents. Now that they're seated, no more issues). This is my first set of carbons, but I'm amazed how much smoother they are than aluminum.

I purchased an Easton wheelset this spring EC90 SL up front and the EC90 aero in the rear, and have put almost 3000 miles on them. So far they have been absolutely flawless. They are fast on the flats and stiff on the climbs. I have been most impressed with how these wheels handle in crosswinds. I previously was riding on a pair of ENVE 45's which were dicey on windy days. Now I can descend with variable winds and not worry about it.

As for the heating problem everyone complains about, that is an issue with every carbon clincher. If you don't want to worry about it ride tubular or aluminum wheels.

Heat Failure of Braking Surface

    As a 70kg rider I was very disappointed that 2 front and 1 rear wheels failed because of heat build up on the braking surface. Heat build-up and failure pushes the plastic through the carbon fibre weave, which then causes a very unpleasant grabbing and uneven braking. The braking surface even forms a concave groove around the entire wheel. In addition, the rear hub had a known problem, was replaced and then ultimately failed. Both failures are in the 'dangerous' category. I'm now very happily riding on Zipp 303 Carbon Firecrests.

    I have been extremely disappointed with the Easton EC90 SL clincher wheels set, while riding a tour in Oregon in August 0f 2012, the front wheel breaking surface built up heat very quickly making brake extremely dangerous., consequently deforming the rim which opened and exposed the fiber . Both wheels front and rear were totally in servable. To be able to continue in the tour both wheels were replaced
    I do not recommend these wheels especially when cycling in mountainous terrain with continuous slopes simply they are not safe, rather dangerous. Contrary to what Easton claim the breaking surface do not withstand heat or continues up and down slope riding. I weight about 185 pounds and a 100 psi was maintained in this wheels which were new at the time.

    on the front t says SRAM/Shimano however on the rear it says only SRAM. does this mean it is not compatible with Shimano?

    Easton makes three freehub bodies. Campagnolo only works with campagnolo. The SRAM freehub body is compatible with both SRAM and Shimano. The Shimano Freehub body, however, is only compatible with Shimano.

    The Carbon is laid up in their factory in mexico, but the wheels are laced up in the states.

    I would ask your lbs to be more specific. I haven't heard any problems and lots of guy around here run Easton carbon. I don't have this exact wheelset but do own a set of Easton wheel with the same R4 hubs that are found on every top of the line easton wheel. They have been absolutely flawless over thousands of miles. Some people who lbs don't explain to them or don't read the manual have a problem because the bearing pre-load is set manually and after a few hundred miles or several times on and off you may have to re-set the bearing load. You know because the hub may make a ticking sound, this takes all but 3 seconds to adjust. If you research it the manual bearing pre-load set is great to have especially if you want to dial out the drag.

    The spokes used are a sapim. The model I have the sapim c-xram bladed spoke and to be honest me and my brother have both broken spokes. I don't know if is the spoke tension or what but they were rather random spoke breakages.

    Having problems with spokes breaking on front wheel, spoke broke at nipple on a slight incline , easton fixed it, took a month, spoke broke 2 rides later in the saddle on a flat road, easton won't refund but obvious problems with spokes , wheels are back with easton

    I've had a pair for a year. Broke a spoke in the rear wheel after 6 months. Easton rebuilt under warranty. Broke a front spoke a month ago (1 year old). Took a lot longer to get resolved. Just got a new wheel back with the 'made in Mexico tag'. Guess the've joined the outsourcing for more profit crowd too. Very sad. Guess I'm going to be checking Mad Fiber out.

    I run HED wheels with Sapim bladed spokes and they have been a real problem. Broke spokes 4 times on the drive side. HED was grest is fixing and finally replacing the wheel but they said a bad batch of Sapim spokes has been a problem for them. Could be the same here.
